Women’s Euros semi-final thrashes Wimbledon’s men’s final in ratings-Charlotte Manning-Entertainment – Metro
Over 9 million viewers watched the game live.

Over 9 million football fans tuned into the Women’s Euros semi-final on Tuesday night, to see England beat Sweden 4-0.
The 2022 Women’s Euros has got football fever running through the nation, with millions of viewers giving their support to England’s Lionesses.
Last night’s game saw the team put on a very confident performance against their Scandinavian rivals and sail through to the final.
The overnight ratings have now revealed a peak of a whopping 9.3 million fans watched live on their TV sets.
BBC One enjoyed an average audience of 6.7 million and a 43% share of viewing across almost three hours of coverage.
Meanwhile, the Wimbledon men’s final achieved a peak audience of 7.5 million, meaning nearly 2 million more sporting fans saw the women’s team triumph.

Live coverage, featuring goals from Lucy Bronze, Beth Mead, Fran Kirby and an audacious backheel by Alessia Russo, also received 2 million streams.
It comes after last week’s quarter-final against Spain attracted 7.7 million viewers at its peak.
Social media quickly reacted to the solid ratings, with many users reminding fans of the importance of free-to-air sport.

One shared on Twitter: ‘Incredible figures. Brilliant. Shows how much of a big moment this could be for women’s football – and importance of having live sport on free-to-air channels #Lionesses #ItsComingHome.’
‘It’s almost like putting things behind a paywall limits engagement…..,’ someone else noted.
Another commented: ‘I don’t care for football but it is about time the country got behind the female English team.’
A fan weighed in: ‘I caught it in a packed-out pub where everyone was glued to the screen. The actual number surely much higher.’

The second semi-final between Germany and France is live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 7.30pm this evening.
Sunday afternoon’s final is now expected to be the biggest TV event of the year so far.
The most-watched programme of 2022 is the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee: Party At The Palace concert, which aired back in June.
This drew in over 13 million at its peak, with star performances from the likes of Sam Ryder, Queen and Adam Lambert and Rod Stewart.
The Women’s Euros final at Wembley Stadium featuring England and Germany or France will be on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 4.00pm on Sunday.
