The very first teaser for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has dropped – and it looks intense.
Cillian Murphy stars as J Robert Oppenheimer, the man behind the atomic bomb, in the movie, which also features a star-studded cast including Florence Pugh, Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr.
In the new teaser, which counts down to the exact moment of the film’s release in just under a year’s time, Emily Blunt, who plays Oppenheimer’s wife Kitty is heard saying: ‘The world is changing, reforming. This is your moment.’
As Cillian’s character is seen for the first time, in black and white, we hear: ‘You gave them the power to destroy themselves and made him the most important man who ever lived.’
As the countdown begins, Robert Downey Jr’s character is heard saying: ‘The man who moved the earth’.
Joining the incredible cast are also Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, David Krumholtz, Michael Angarano and Sir Kenneth Branagh.
Oppenheimer is based on Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, written by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin.

Written and directed by Nolan, the film marks the sixth collaboration between him and Cillian after the actor’s appearance as Dr Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow, in the Dark Knight trilogy, as well as his role as Robert Fischer in Inception and a small cameo in Dunkirk.
However, it’s the first time he’s taken a lead role in one of the director’s films.

Talking about preparing for the role, Peaky Blinders actor Cillian explained to The Guardian: ‘[I prepped by doing] an awful lot of reading.
‘I’m interested in the man and what [inventing the atomic bomb] does to the individual. The mechanics of it, that’s not really for me — I don’t have the intellectual capability to understand them, but these contradictory characters are fascinating.’
It might be 11 months away, but we already know Oppenheimer’s going to face some…intriguing competition, with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie set for release on the same day.
Let the battle begin.
Oppenheimer is set for release on July 21, 2023.
