Constance Wu has offered her support to Shawn Mendes, who has cancelled his tour to work on his mental health.

The musician announced this week that the remaining dates on his Wonder tour would not go ahead, as he was not ‘prepared for the toll being back on the road would take on me.’

He told fans it had become clear, after speaking with health professionals, that he needed to ‘ground [himself] and come back stronger’ when he was ready.

It came after the 23-year-old previously postponed some of his scheduled performances for mental health reasons.

Now Hustlers star Constance has sent her love to the Senorita singer, days after making her own honest confession about having previously attempted suicide.

Taking to Instagram, Constance shared Shawn’s announcement, writing alongside it: ‘Sending love and support to @shawnmendes.’

She added a red heart emoji beside the supportive caption.

Constance has only recently returned to social media after a three-year hiatus, and last week explained that she left over trolling so severe she felt as though she ‘didn’t even deserve to live anymore.’

In a devastating, honest post, she wrote: ‘I was afraid of coming back on social media because I almost lost my life from it.

‘Three years ago, when I made careless tweets about the renewal of my TV show, it ignited outrage and internet shaming that got pretty severe.

‘I felt awful about what I’d said, and when a few DMs from a fellow Asian actress told me I’d become a blight on the Asian American community, I started feeling like I didn’t even deserve to live anymore. That I was a disgrace to AsAms, and they’d be better off without me.’

The 40-year-old then added: ‘Looking back, it’s surreal that a few DMs convinced me to end my own life, but that’s what happened. Luckily, a friend found me and rushed me to the ER.’

Constance said that it was a ‘scary moment’ that made her ‘reassess a lot in my life’, and so for the next few years, she put her ‘career aside’ so she could focus on her mental health.

In 2019, the actress experienced backlash after she appeared upset by the renewal of her TV show Fresh Off The Boat, later apologising by explaining: ‘I was temporarily upset yesterday not bc I hate the show but bc its renewal meant I had to give up another project that I was really passionate about.’

Musician Shawn, meanwhile, explained to fans in his tour cancellation announcement that he had been ‘excited to finally get back to playing live after a long break due to the pandemic, but the reality is I was not at all ready for how difficult touring would be after this time away.’

He added: ‘We were hopeful that I might be able to pick up with the rest of the dates after some much needed time off, but at this time I have to put my health as my first priority.’

Shawn explained that it ‘breaks his heart’ to scrap the remaining dates, and reassured fans that he would be getting back into the studio to record new music when he is able to.

‘I know you all have been waiting so long to see these shows, and it breaks my heart to tell you this but I promise I will be back as soon as I’ve taken the right time to heal.

‘I love you all and thank you all so much for supporting me and sticking by me on this journey.’
