Jack Saunders will be the latest BBC Radio 1 presenter to have musicians everywhere on tenterhooks after being announced as Scott Mills’ replacement for The Official Chart Show.

The 29-year-old will begin his Friday afternoon slot counting down the top 40 best-selling and most streamed singles in the UK from September 9.

Jack takes over from Scott, 49, who currently also helms the drivetime slot, after it was confirmed he would be leaving the station for a new job at Radio 2.

While Scott is something of a Radio 1 veteran having worked at the station for 24 years, Jack joined the network in 2018 to present brand-new music show Radio 1’s Future Artists.

More recently, Jack has fronted Radio 1’s Indie show and will be recognised by festival fans as the host of the BBC’s coverage of Glastonbury this year.

As well as Scott, he follows in the footsteps of previous presenters including Jameela Jamil, Clara Amfo, and Greg James.

Sharing his delight, Jack said: ‘I can’t believe my name gets added next to the endless list of legends who have presented The Official Chart and to take over from an amazing broadcaster such as Scott Mills is amazing. I can’t wait to get started and put my own imprint on it.’

Meanwhile, Radio 1 head honcho Aled Haydn Jones promised listeners they will love Jack’s ‘infectious energy and passion for music that he’ll undoubtedly bring to the show.’

There have been further changes in the presenting line-up at BBC Radio 1 with Scott’s buddy Chris Stark also exiting the station.

Chris, who presented popular segments Innuendo Bingo and the Official Charts Show, will join swap Radio 1 for Capital, working alongside Roman Kemp.

In the meantime, Chris and Scott have been having some fun before they leave, hijacking Greg James’ Breakfast Show for an entire week.

Greg was then subjected to a series of puzzling tasks across the country, including jumping off a ‘terrifying’ diving board, to win back his show.
