Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has confirmed the upcoming film will feature some existing characters from the hit BBC drama, as well as some newbies.
The sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders aired earlier this year and saw gang ringleader Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) down a dark road after the death of his daughter Ruby (Orla McDonagh).
The six-parter was filled with twists, turns and a few major deaths as fans said farewell to the Shelby clan in style.
However, with viewers still desperate to see more from their favourite gangsters, creator Steven has given a much-needed update on the spin-off film, which is set for release in the next couple of years.
Chatting ahead of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Birmingham on Thursday, the legendary Brummie screenwriter was probed on what fans might get to see next.
When asked by Heart Breakfast’s Jamie Theakston about whether there would be ‘familiar faces’ in the instalment, Steven gave the answer all fans wanted to hear.

He replied: ‘Of course, and some new faces that will hopefully be quite surprising!’
So maybe fans will get to see Tommy Shelby back at his best after all, but which new faces might he but up against this time?
Jamie went on to ask the showrunner when the film might be coming to our screens, but it seems there could still be a while to wait.
Steven explained he was hopeful shooting will happen ‘within 18 months’ before adding: ‘Then obviously, we put it together.

‘I don’t know, I mean it will depend on the distributors and things when it goes out. But I’m just really looking forward to having a Peaky event where people can watch it communally.
‘I mean, the social media community is so strong and people talk to each other. But to actually be together physically will be really interesting.
It comes after Steven chatted to Metro.co.uk earlier this year, and admitted he would love Line of Duty star Vicky McClure involved with the film.

He told us of Vicky: ’I really want her in it! I don’t know how we haven’t managed to do that.
‘I mean, she’s brilliant and it’s not a decision on anybody’s part to say no because she’s brilliant.’

Going on to tease a potential role for her in the film, he added: ‘We’d love to and we will put her in the film if she’ll do it!’
Elsewhere, he suggested to us that Line of Duty star Stephen – who plays newcomer Hayden Stagg – would be involved with the project which is expected to come to cinemas in 2023.
Opening up on being able to cast Stephen in the series finale, he said: ‘I’ve wanted him in it for a long time and this series, we managed to get the schedules aligned.

‘I was writing a character, set in the Liverpool Dock’s and I knew, it could only be him,’ he shared.
The writer teased: ‘It’s been brilliant, and I want to keep him as part of it, going forward.’
