While some may not be happy with the direction Love Island has gone this year, with the show sparking thousands of complaints, Kaye Adams has revealed she finds the series ‘so useful’ for speaking with her daughter.
On Friday’s Loose Women, the panel were discussing the importance of adults connecting with and having open conversations with their children when the subject of the ITV2 competition was brought up.
Kaye referenced the comments recently made at a Tory leadership hustings, when she said that she felt ‘completely horrified’ by the show and could only manage watching with her daughter for 10 minutes before walking away.
‘She sort of made that remark that lots of us make to be honest, “Oh I sat with my teenage daughter for 10 minutes and then decided it was a lot of rubbish and I went away,”’ the TV presenter star said.
‘It’s up to her how she parents her children of course, but I thought actually, Love Island has been so useful for me, in terms of having conversations with my daughter.’
The journalist, who has two daughters with her partner Ian Campbell, continued: ‘That’s how I got into it. I’m not really going to get into Love Island at my age, but I’ve sat with the pair of them, I’ve listened to the conversations, it’s prompted conversations. They’ve asked me questions. I’ve actually found it a brilliant way of just things happening quite spontaneously.’

Fellow Loose Women presenter Judi Love agreed, saying that she sees her children ‘a lot more relaxed’ when she watches TV with them.
‘The other day I was watching Kendrick Lamar at the evening of the Glastonbury headline. I’ve watched Love Island as well with my older daughter,’ the former Strictly Come Dancing star said.
‘Just the different conversations that it brought up, whether it’s from political stuff, whether it’s about how you respect yourself as a young lady or relationships. Because they’re relaxed and they’re in the moment, it just carries on the conversation.’

Judi also revealed another method she has for connecting with her children – offering a notebook that they can write in if they don’t want to speak out loud, which she checks every week and sometimes responds to in writing.
Sunetra Sarker then listed off various pieces of advice that have been circulating about how to chat to children and teenagers, including ‘validating’ their feelings, thanking them for sharing and discussing together why they may feel a certain way, as opposed to simply telling them.

Earlier this week, ITV boss Kevin Lygo confirmed that Love Island would be ‘reviewed’ after the current series, which has sparked 5,000 complaints over the past two weeks.
Many of the complaints to Ofcom have pertained to ‘alleged misogynistic behaviour’ being exhibited by the male islanders towards the female contestants.
‘We continually assess a programme as it is going on because it is one of these odd every night live sort of shows,’ Kevin said.
‘But when the series comes to an end on Monday, we will always sit down and review what we think about it, what the reaction has been, how well it has done.’
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
