Could there be a surprise upset?

It’s finally here – Beyoncé has released her brand new album, Renaissance.
The Single Ladies icon teased fans about her explosive return last month when she released House bop Break My Soul.
Expectations have understandably been high for Queen Bey’s seventh studio album after the major commercial and creative success of 2016’s Lemonade.
And now, despite a controversy that saw the full album leaked ahead of time, the Queen is back.
But Beyoncé isn’t the only megastar with an album coming out in the next few weeks, and there’ll be a battle to see who wins the top spot in the charts.
So, which albums are set to compete with Beyoncé’s Renaissance?
Lizzo – Special

The absolute icon that is Lizzo returned this year with her new album Special, and honestly, it was.
Her lead single – About Damn Time – rushed the charts, even knocking off Harry Styles’ As It Was, which to that point appeared would never happen.
Having burst onto the scene in 2019 with breakthrough album Cuz I Love You, Lizzo completely took over the airwaves in the summer of 2019 with Truth Hurts, and has since become one of the most recognisable artists of the 21st century.
Special was released on 15 July, and with Beyonce making her return just a week later, most artists would likely be giving up any idea of getting the top spot.
But with Lizzo being the legend she is, an absolute army of fans behind her, and her album currently at number two in the US charts – it’s not over yet.
Wiz Khalifa – Multiverse

On the very same day that Beyoncé released Renaissance, Hip-Hop icon Wiz Khalifa returned with his seventh studio album, Multiverse.
It’s the star’s first album since 2018’s Rolling Papers 2, which debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 charts.
The lead single from the new album, Iced Out Necklace, was released in April.
Wiz has clinched two number one hits in the UK previously: 2012’s Payphone and 2015’s See You Again.
However the star has experienced renewed popularity since his tracks featured in TikTok trends in 2020, so he’s not to be ruled out.
Calvin Harris – Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2

Calvin Harris is behind some of the most iconic dance tunes of the last 15 years, with some absolutely massive number ones under his belt.
From his first number one hit, 2008’s Dance Wiv Me, to the song that completely took over the airwaves in summer 2018, his and Dua Lipa’s One Kiss, Calvin could be a serious contender against Renaissance.
His new album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2, will be released on 5 August, and its lead singles have already made waves in the charts.
Though none have reached number one, so far Calvin has teamed up with 21 Savage, Pharrell Williams, Justin Timberlake, Young Thug and reunited with Dua for singles New Money, Potion and Stay With Me.
Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2 will also feature vocals from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Pusha T, Jorja Smith, Offset and Busta Rhymes.
Eminem – Curtain Call Volume 2

Rapper Eminem – aka Marshall Mathers – is making a return of his own in the coming weeks, with his new album set to release on 5 August.
Curtain Call Vol 2 is a collection of greatest hits rather than entirely new tracks, despite him having recently released a single with the iconic Snoop Dogg.
This new song – From the D 2 the LBC – will feature on the greatest hits collection, as well as other hits since his previous hits compilation album released in 2005.
It’s set to include movie soundtrack songs (Venom, anyone?) as well as guest appearances and selections from his solo albums.
The star appeared to own the airwaves in the mid-2000’s, with tracks like Stan, Lose Yourself and Without Me forever etched in our brains.
Eminem had a revival in the 2010s with massive hits such as The Monster, Not Afraid and Love The Way You Lie.
His last number one hit came in 2020, when he teamed up with Juiceworld for track Godzilla, but his last six tracks have failed to break the top 10 in the UK.
Demi Lovato – Holy Fvck

Demi Lovato is set to return to form as they release their eighth studio album, Holy Fvck, on 19 August.
While Beyoncé has the Beyhive, Demi fans are no small force, and the anticipation for Holy Fvck is immense in the fandom.
Demi has indicated that the album will be a return to their early rock-influenced roots, having previously held a stunt featuring a ‘funeral’ for their former pop sound.
The album’s new lead single, Skin Of My Teeth, was released in May, with a second, Substance, launcing in July.

Demi has only clinched one number on hit in the UK throughout their career, after they teamed up with Clean Bandit for 2018’s Solo.
Their last album, Dancing With The Devil, was released in 2021 and peaked at number two in the UK charts.
Renaissance is out now.
