Piers Morgan has announced that he will be taking a break from presenting his current affairs talk show Uncensored – and Jeremy Kyle will be replacing him during his time off.

Morgan, 57, broke the news on Twitter early this morning to his 7.9million followers, receiving 32 retweets in response.

In addition, viewers have also been informed that former ITV presenter Jeremy Kyle will be standing in for Morgan while he ‘relaxes’ in America.

Commenting on his planned break, Morgan tweeted: ‘That’s it for me on Uncensored for the summer. Thanks to my brilliant team for all their hard work.’

So far, Uncensored has aired 56 episodes and has featured interviews from former President Donald Trump, Caitlyn Jenner, and Usain Bolt.

Morgan continued: ‘I’m off to relax by grilling serial killers in American prisons. [Uncensored will be] back on air September 5.’

That’s it for me on @PiersUncensored for the summer. We’ve had a cracking first 56 shows, that started & ended with massive global scoops. Thanks to my brilliant team for all their hard work. Speaking about his replacement, Morgan joked: ‘I can imagine no finer broadcaster to keep my seat warm. Well, I can, but they weren’t available – I’m sure he’ll do his best.’

The disappointing viewer ratings for Uncensored have received widespread coverage, with ratings dropping by as much as 80% from its opening night.

Kyle famously presented The Jeremy Kyle Show during ITV’s daytime schedule between 2005 and 2019, then made the move to TalkTV in 2021.

The Jeremy Kyle Show was axed by ITV after it was revealed that a guest had died by suicide after taping an upcoming episode.

Steve Dymond, who died at the age of 63, sent a final text message to his ex-fiancée after ‘failing’ a lie detector test on the set of the show.

It read: ‘I hope the Jeremy Kyle Show is happy now. They are responsible for what happens now. I hope this makes good ratings for them’.

‘I bet they keep this quiet. Never never never did I cheat on you. Never never. My final words’.

The incident sparked a review into how potentially vulnerable guests were handled when appearing on sensitive television shows.

TalkTV hit the headlines earlier this week when the channel’s political editor Kate McCann fainted suddenly during a head-to-head debate between prospective Conservative leaders Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak.

Uncensored airs weeknight at 8pm on TalkTV.
