Rylan Clark has made clear his thoughts on Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak’s bids to become the next PM after the pair were both criticised for their choice of attire earlier this week.

Mr Sunak and Ms Truss are the final two candidates remaining in the Conservative Party leadership contest after several hopefuls were knocked out in the earlier stages of the campaign.

The results will come on September 5, with one set to take over from Boris Johnson, who announced his resignation earlier this month

However, the contest has been pretty dramatic, with the Tory Party gradually splitting into two firm camps ahead of the vote for their next leader.

Earlier this week, Sunak was criticised by Truss supporter Nadine Dorries earlier this week in a bizarre rant, over wearing a £3,500 suit and Prada loafers.

Meanwhile, she claimed, Truss wore earrings from Claire’s Accessories that cost just £4.50, for some reason.

When quizzed by fellow panellist and Labour MP Jess Phillips on his thoughts on Dorries’ remarks on Friday’s The Last Leg, Rylan was very straight-talking in his response.

He told viewers: ‘I just don’t think it matters, Jess. I don’t care what you’re wearing, just run the country right.

‘Look after the people of this country and stop being a f***ing a***hole.’

The It Takes Two host was met with a standing ovation from the studio audience after his comments, with host Adam Hills joking: ‘So glad you’re being careful about what you’re saying.’

Rylan continued by telling those watching that his first promise if he became PM in the UK, would be to give everyone free veneers.

The blistering attack also got him a lot of love on social media, from fans who agreed with his remarks.

One wrote on Twitter: ‘#IsItOk that @Rylan speaks for the whole country. What a legend. End of. #TheLastLeg #LastLeg.’

Someone else commented: ‘This is absolutely brilliant @Rylan on the #lastleg.’

Another weighed in: ‘Go Rylan! Truth to power! I don’t care how much the clothes you’re wearing cost! Just look after the people & run the country properly! #LastLeg.’

A fan added: ‘Love @Rylan, better words have not been said for ages…let normal people have the say.  #lastleg.’

Comedian John Bishop praised the star’s comments, and shared: ‘Watching @TheLastLeg – perfect way to end the week and @Rylan is funny as f*** #rylanforPM.’

Elsewhere in the chat, Labour’s Phillips put forward the idea of Rylan for PM, and we couldn’t agree more.

The Last Leg airs Fridays from 10pm on Channel 4.
