Get ready to return to Wakanda

During this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel unveiled their eagerly-anticipated upcoming titles including the brand new installment of the Black Panther franchise.
Wakanda Forever, set to be released later this year, has been a long time coming after being delayed from its 2021 release due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It will be the first Black Panther film since the death of lead actor Chadwick Boseman, who died in 2020 from colon cancer.
Marvel confirmed that they would not be recasting Boseman’s iconic role, and would instead be focusing on the wider characters and history of Wakanda in the film.
Director Ryan Coogler and the cast confirmed the film will pay tribute to Boseman.
Speaking to DigitalSpy earlier this year, Letitia Wright said: ‘We honoured him by committing ourselves to the story that he started, the legacy that he started with this franchise.
‘And we just committed every day to working hard, no matter what circumstances we faced – and we faced a lot of circumstances, a lot of difficult situations – but we came together as a team, and we poured everything into this movie.’

When does Black Panther: Wakanda Forever come out?
Fans of the Black Panther franchise won’t have to wait much longer as Wakanda Forever is set to be released on November 11, 2022.
However, it’s been a long time coming since the first installment came out way back in 2018.
The film was originally set for a 2021 release but due to the coronavirus pandemic became delayed.
Production restarted in January 2022 and finished in March 2022, delayed once more for a week due to Covid.

What is the plot?
Marvel released the full synopsis for the new film during Comic Con.
It says: ‘In Marvel Studios’ ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death.
‘As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.’
Who is in the cast?
The new film will see the return of some familiar characters as well as some new faces.
Letitia Wright is back as T’Challa’s younger sister Shuri, with Danai Gurira also returning as the Dora Milaje’s Okoye and Lupita Nyong’o as Wakandan spy Nakia.

Angela Bassett is also back as T’Challa’s mother Ramonda, as well as Winston Duke as M’Baku, Florence Kasumba as Dora Milaje warrior Ayo, and Martin Freeman as Everett Ross.
Newcomers to the cast include Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, who will also appear in her own Disney Plus show Ironheart.
Other newcomers include Michaela Coel as Dora Milaje leader Aneka and Tenoch Huerta as Talocan king Namor.

Marvel released a teaser trailer for the film at Comic Con much to the excitement of fans.

The clip opens with stirring scenes of Nakia looking out onto a beach, while Ramonda is seen sitting on her throne.
Interspersed with clips of T’Challa’s sister Shuri are shots of Okoye getting ready for action while flanked by Wakandan warriors.
Elsewhere, a woman is seen giving birth underwater while airships make their way through a frozen landscape and a royal chamber erupts into flames.

Iron Man’s successor Ironheart makes her debut while viewers also get a glimpse of new cast member Michaela Coel before a huge battle between Wakanda fighters and Atlanteans ensues.
It’s not clear who replaces Boseman as T’Challa, with Marvel bosses deciding not to recast his famous role, but a figure is seen donning the character’s costume.
Ramonda later gives an address and says: ‘I am Queen of the most powerful in the world, and my entire family is gone!’
However, perhaps the most powerful moment of the trailer is the mural of Boseman marked on the side of a building as a clear tribute to the beloved late actor.

Is Chadwick Boseman in the new film?
Boseman will unfortunately not appear in the new Black Panther film.
The actor died before production for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever began, though he was expected to reprise his role for the film.
Marvel confirmed they would not be replacing Boseman in the film, and will instead focus on the other characters and the history of Wakanda.
The trailer shows a number of tributes to the former star, including a large mural and an appearance from his famous helmet.
Coogler paid a touching tribute to Boseman during his appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

Speaking to the audience, he said: ‘If you’ve ever seen Chad in person, he had these enormous hands.
‘He was gigantic, it was probably part of the reason why he fit the Panther suit so well.
‘He was really, really strong, and he was getting excited as the clips went on and on and on, squeezing down my shoulder all the time.
‘When it went off, he was like, ‘Oh man, that was amazing, congratulations’, but I couldn’t even lift my arm.
‘I promise you, I can feel his hand on me right now.’
