Love Island is coming to an end, which means it’s time to talk prize money.

As it happens, love and money have always gone hand in hand. After all, what couple doesn’t have to deal with finances?

Winners of the hit ITV2 dating show, though, face a particularly tough decision. Every year, the winning couple is announced, and both members of the couple are given an envelope.

One contains the £50,000 prize money, while the other its empty – and it’s up to the person who received the money to choose whether they share it with their partner or keep the cash for themselves.

It’s enough to test any relationship – let alone one that has had less than two months to thrive.

So, have any previous winners decided to keep the money and run?

Has any Love Island winner taken the money?

Love has always prevailed… so far.

To date, the winning couples have always opted to split the cash and start their relationship off on a high note.

Millie Court and Liam Reardon won the show in 2021, with Millie receiving the winning envelope containing the hefty prize. Ultimately, she shared the money with then-boyfriend Liam.

The couple has since broken up, but enjoyed a year-long relationship before calling it quits.

Paige Turley and Finley Tapp were crowned winners in 2020, with Paige was given the responsibility of choosing love or love of money.

She chose to split the cash, and thankfully it turned out to be the right decision, as the couple remain happily shacked up, even eyeing a big wedding day in the future.

In 2015, winners Max Morley and Jess Hayes had to choose if they were in their couple for Love or Money. They both chose Love and got to split the £50,000 prize.

In 2016, Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey were given the gold envelopes in the final – and Cara decided to share.

In 2017, Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay had the choice, with the power in Kem’s hands after he chose the envelope containing the money. He also decided to split it with Amber.

Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham won Love Island in 2018, while 2019 winners were Greg O’Shea and Amber Gill. Both pairs decided to split the money, keeping things fair.

The Love Island final airs tonight on ITV2 at 9pm.
