Ric Flair wins last match age 73 as WWE legends watch emotional and bloody bout-Alistair McGeorge-Entertainment – Metro
The Nature Boy went all out for his final fight.
Wrestling legend Ric Flair was covered in blood as he won his last ever match in front of nine thousand fans and some WWE Hall of Famers.
The Nature Boy teamed with his son-in-law Andrade El Idolo on Sunday night (July 31) in a winning effort against Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett as they brought a stacked Jim Crockett Promotions event to a close.
Flair was busted open and covered in blood by the end, but picked up the victory with his signature Figure Four Leg Lock to finally call time on a career now spanning almost five decades.
The Nature Boy wrestled his first retirement bout against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 24 in 2008 but went onto perform for IMPACT Wrestling, with his final match there coming in September 2011 against longtime rival Sting.
For this weekend’s last clash, the likes of Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart, Mick Foley, The Undertaker and his wife Michelle McCool were all in attendance, while other big names like Cody Rhodes and Shawn Michaels sent in videos paying tribute during the show.
After the bout, the 16-time world champion – who is said to be ‘spent’ but otherwise fine following the intense performance – thanked his fellow legends and the live crowd for turning up, and hailed Nashville as one of the greatest wrestling towns anywhere in the world.
Elsewhere on the show, the Motor City Machine Guns beat The Wolves in the opening bout while Killer Kross needed just five minutes to pin Davey Boy Smith Jr.
Michaels, Dolph Ziggler, Booker T, Jake Roberts, Will Sasso, Lex Luger and more had kind words for Flair, and Jonathan Gresham then won a bout featuring Alan Angels, Konosuke Takeshita and Nick Wayne.
Brock Anderson and Brian Pillman Jr. beat Ricky and Kerry Morton, Rey Fenix defeated Taurus, Laredo Kid and Bandido, and Josh Alexander retained the IMPACT World Title over Jacob Fatu via a no contest.
The Briscoes beat the Von Erichs in a great match, and Jordynne Grace kept hold of the IMPACT Knockouts Title against Deonna Purrazzo and Rachael Ellering in the final match before the main event.
At the end of the day, Ric Flair’s Last Match delivered a tribute to one of the most talented wrestlers of all time, and did so in a way that kept him as safe as possible while hopefully allowing him to be at peace with his career.
Replays of Ric Flair’s Last Match can be watched on Fite TV.
