Gabby Logan has been praised for her ‘epic’ sign-off from the BBC coverage after the Lionesses won the European Championship 2022.

The legendary sports presenter helmed the coverage alongside former players Ian Wright and Alex Scott, and current Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall.

After England’s Lionesses roared their way to a sensational 2-1 win over Germany in the final, with the presenters (and the rest of the nation) left awestruck, fans had nothing but praise for their comments, including Gabby’s rousing sign-off.

Following a conversation about the increasing support for women’s football, Gabby thanked everyone who had made the coverage possible.

She went on: ‘Is this a game-changing moment? Well, the record audiences on TV and crowds in the stadiums has been fantastic, brilliant. But to really move the sport on, we need you.

‘If you’ve enjoyed it, get yourself along to a WSL [Women’s Super League] game this season, even if you only go to one or two.

‘The Lionesses have brought football home. Now it’s down to the rest of us to make sure it stays here. You think it’s all over? It’s only just begun. From all of us, goodbye.’

Football came home – let’s keep it that way 💪

The moment was only made all the better by Ian declaring off-screen: ‘Love it, Gabs!’

‘What a closing line from @GabbyLogan,’ one fan wrote, with another adding: ‘@GabbyLogan signs out in style. What a moment.’

‘You think it’s all over? It’s only just begun.’ is an all-time great closing line. Brilliant @GabbyLogan,’ another said, with one more adding: ‘Powerful words from @GabbyLogan.’

Alex and Ian were also widely praised for their comments, pointing out how difficult it’s been for women’s football to be taken seriously, and reminding viewers of the clubs who turned down the opportunity to host the women’s Euros in 2018.

‘I hope you’re all looking at yourself right now because you weren’t brave enough,’ Alex said.

Stars across the country – and across the world – celebrated the win after the Lionesses defeated Germany at Wembley after incredible goals from Ella Toone and Chloe Kelly.

‘You know these women will have had to fight for respect from the first moment they picked up the ball – Lets f**king go girls!,’ Shania Twain wrote.

Adele said: ‘You did it!! It’s come home!! Congratulations @lionesses what a game changer!! So proud.’

Miranda Hart said: ‘Crying. So brilliant. So important. Too emotional to articulate more. I am glad there are 7 year olds watching this who wanted to be a goalkeeper like I did! But didn’t think it was ‘appropriate’ or ‘allowed’ to voice it. Thank you Lionesses.’

Rob Beckett couldn’t resist throwing it back to his iconic Euro 2020 celebration (which ended with him eating fried chicken by a bin), teasing: ‘Anyone fancy some fried chicken?’
