Following the romantic lives and friendships of Moordale students, Sex Education has become one of Netflix’s most iconic shows.

Starring the likes of Gillian Anderson and future Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa, the series boasts an impressive cast of acclaimed actors, as well as new faces.

However, several of the coming-of-age drama’s cast have revealed they will not be returning for season 4, which is expected to land on the streamer in 2023.

Here is everything you need to know about the actors who have quit Sex Education ahead of the next season and what they’re up to instead.

Patricia Allison

Patricia Allison announced her departure from Sex Education last month, revealing she was leaving the series to focus on other projects.

She told the Capital 1Xtra breakfast show: ‘I absolutely have loved being on Sex Education so so much, and playing Ola but unfortunately, I won’t be joining the team for season four.’

Explaining why she had quit the Netflix series, she revealed: ‘Some other opportunities have come up. So, I’ve been doing it for three years and I’ve like genuinely loved it.’

Patrica played Ola in the hit series, first dating main character Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), before moving on with alien obsessed Lily Iglehart (Tanya Reynolds).

The 27-year-old will next be on our screens in action film Paradise, which is set in Hawaii, and also stars Friends actor Tate Donovan.

Paradise follows Ella Patchet (Patricia) as she tries to uncover the secrets, corruptions and lies surrounding her beloved father’s murder.

Simone Ashley

Simone Ashley quit Sex Education ahead of its fourth season because, well, her loyalties lie elsewhere.

Speaking on This Morning the actress stated: ‘I’m a Bridgerton gal now!’

In Sex Education, the 27-year-old played Olivia, who was a member of the mean girls-esque clique The Untouchables – which also included Ruby (Mimi Keene) and Anwar (Chaneil Kular), as well as Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood) before she left the group.

Right now Simone is busy filming season 3 of Bridgerton, after joining the cast in the previous season as the leading lady, winning Anthony Bridgerton’s (Anthony Bailey) heart.

Plot details are being kept under wraps but fans have been told the new season will focus on Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), aka gossip queen Lady Whistledown, and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).

Rakhee Thakrar

Another shock exit from Netflix is Rakhee Thakrar, who will not reprise her role as teacher Emily Sands.

Rakhee cryptically said that she ‘can’t really talk about why’ she won’t be in the latest season of Sex Education.

‘I’m not part of the new series,’ she told the Daily Star, before adding: ‘There is nothing bad about Sex Education.’

Miss Sands was a popular character who became known for her friendship with main character Maeve (Emma Mackey) and her relationship with fellow teacher Colin Hendricks (Jim Howick).

Rakhee has several projects lined up this year, including a part in ITV cold case murder drama, Karen Pirie, and in Hallmark series My Happy Ending with Andie MacDowell and Miriam Margolyes.

Fans can also catch her in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory revival, Wonka, which stars Timothée Chalamet and Olivia Colman.

Tanya Reynolds

Tayna Reynolds spoke to Metro.co.uk and said she was sad not to be returning for series four of Sex Education.

‘I will miss the gang a lot,’ she added, ‘but onwards!’

Tanya joined Sex Education in the first series, playing a Moordale High student who tries to lose her virginity in season one and then starts dating Ola in season two.
