Big Brother winner Anthony Hutton calls for ‘diverse’ characters reboot: ‘We don’t want almost famous people’-Stella Akinwumi-Entertainment – Metro

Big Brother star Anthony Hutton hopes the highly-anticipated reboot will include a batch of diverse characters instead of social media influencers.

During last night’s Love Island finale, ITV confirmed the return of the beloved reality show, which is set to air next year.

A new cast of housemates from across the country and all walks of life will be homed in a brand new Big Brother house, with the eyes of the nation on them.

And best believe we’ll be ready to watch the inevitable drama unfold.

During Tuesday’s This Morning, Big Brother winners Kate Lawler, (series three) Chantelle Houghton, (Celebrity Big Brother series four) and Anthony (series six) shared fond memories over their time on the hit show as well as their hopes for the upcoming revival.

Geordie heartthrob Anthony, 40, expressed that he wants the line-up to consist of regular people.

‘We don’t want loads of almost famous people,’ he told hosts Vernon Kay and Rochelle Humes.

‘They’ve got loads of Instagram followers, I want Frank from Wigan, middle-aged, not in the best shape. Real diverse people in.’

Reflecting on past representation, he added: ‘Back then it was. In the latter stages it stopped.’

According to the show release: ‘The action will all play out under the roof of the iconic Big Brother house, which will be given its own contemporary new look ready for this reimagining of the show.

‘Clever tasks, nail-biting nominations and live evictions will be back, with the public once again playing a crucial role, voting throughout the series and ultimately determining the winner, who will walk away with a life changing cash prize.’

Big Brother initially ran from 2000 to 2010 on Channel 4 with Davina McCall before its move to Channel 5 until 2018 where it was presented by series two champion Brian Dowling and later Emma Willis.

Paul Mortimer, Director of Reality Commissioning & Acquisitions and Controller, ITV2, ItvBe & CITV, has promised even more twists in the reboot series, saying: ‘This refreshed, contemporary new series of Big Brother will contain all the familiar format points that kept viewers engaged and entertained the first time round, but with a brand new look and some additional twists that speak to today’s audience.

‘We’re beyond excited to bring this iconic series to ITV2 and ITVX where it should especially engage with our younger viewers.’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
