Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland has given a much-needed teaser over what fans can expect from season 6, which comes out next month.
The Adult Swim cartoon has been on the air now for almost nine years, first airing back in December 2013. The fifth season aired in 2021, and some of its episodes received a mixed reaction from fans.
So avid watchers of the sci-fi animated sitcom will be buzzing after co-creator Roiland’s most recent update ahead of what he’s described as a ‘f***ing amazing’ season six.
While Rick and Morty’s most recent season received high praise from critics, he admitted in an emotional new interview he had mixed feelings.
‘Season 5 was a weird one… We lost Mendel,’ he begun referring to Emmy award-winning producer J. Michael Mendel, who died unexpectedly from natural causes in 2019, aged 54.
‘It was tough. We were thrown for a loop. That was… yeah. If I talk anymore, I’ll start crying,’ he went on.

But it seems things will be more lighthearted, as he added: ‘I will say that it’s a bit more canonical. It really rewards fans of the show that have been watching up to this point.
‘I think we’re kind of finally back into the rhythm of Rick And Morty, and I think season 6 is… I didn’t particularly think season five was bad, but season six is f**king amazing.
He added to IGN for an interview during San Diego Comic-Con: ‘It really is a f**king quality season.’
It comes after the show’s official account tweeted a teaser for the upcoming season, with a picture of Rick and Morty with some serious abs alongside.
‘Ripped and ready – Season 6 coming September 4th,’ the post read.

While ratings have dipped in recent seasons, the show isn’t going anywhere, as it’s already been renewed up until season 10.
Harmon and Roiland are already hard at work on season seven and season eight. However, due to the previous lengthy gaps between seasons, fans might not get to see season seven air on-screen until January 2024.
Rick and Morty season 6 returns on September 4.
