Travis Scott secures Las Vegas residency less than a year after 10 died in Astroworld tragedy-Kim Novak-Entertainment – Metro

Travis Scott has been confirmed for a string of shows in Las Vegas in September, less than a year after 10 people were killed during crowd surges at his Astroworld festival.

The rapper, 31, has been confirmed to perform seven shows at Zouk nightclub in Las Vegas’s Resorts World, starting in September where he will showcase new music for fans.

According to a press release Travis, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster II, will put on ‘a mind-bending, first-of-its-kind nightclub residency experience’ with his Road To Utopia shows.

Andrew Li, CEO of Zouk Group, added in a statement: ‘Travis Scott was a seamless fit for the Zouk Nightclub roster.

‘His electric performances will pair perfectly with our immersive atmosphere, bringing our guests an unmatched show unlike anything else they can find in Las Vegas.’

It comes after Travis’s performance at Nevada’s Day N Vegas festival, which was due to take place from September 2-4, was cancelled due to ‘a combination of logistics, timing, and production issues.’

Travis has only performed a handful of shows since Astroworld in November 2021, where 10 people were killed in a deadly crowd surge and many more were injured.

The hip-hop star also faces a class action suit alleging that more than 4,900 people were injured, 732 of which were ‘severely’ injured and required extensive medical treatment.

Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed against Travis, Live Nation and others involved in Astroworld, with festivalgoers claiming negligence led to the deaths and injuries sustained at the event.

Both Travis and Live Nation have denied the allegations.

The rapper had come under fire for continuing to perform while distressed fans tried to get his attention and alert him to the crowd surge.

He later apologised and shared his ‘devastation’ that people were killed and injured, claiming he did not know at the time that people were hurt.

Travis told Charlamagne Tha God in an interview in December that he ‘1,000 percent’ did what he could to help after realising there was a problem.

He added: ‘Anytime you can hear something like that, you want to stop the show, you want to make sure fans get the proper attention they need.

‘And anytime I could see anything like that, I did. I stopped it like a couple times to just make sure everybody was OK.’

He explained that the lighting, pyrotechnics and sound from the show can make it hard to tell what is happening in the crowd from the stage, adding: ‘You can only help what you can see and whatever you’re told, whenever they tell you to stop, you stop.’
