Within only two months, Elden Ring related videos were watched a collective 3.4 billion times, almost twice as much as GTA 5 videos.

It was always safe to assume that Elden Ring would be successful given its director also did the Dark Souls series and it had renowned author George R.R. Martin attached to it.

Was anyone expecting it to be this popular, however? Not only has it become one of the best-selling games of all time in the US, it also enjoyed one of the biggest launches on YouTube.

Collectively, Elden Ring videos published within the first 60 days of the game’s release garnered a staggering 3.4 billion views, according to YouTube’s own findings.

That’s almost double what Grand Theft Auto 5 achieved during its launch and considering how popular that game is, Elden Ring managing to outperform it to such a degree is impressive.

Although it doesn’t break down the numbers any further, YouTube does highlight specific YouTubers for their contributions, such as Fextralife, the most popular fan wiki for guides and tutorials, and VaatiVidya, who focuses on and explains Elden Ring’s lore and characters.

As for why Elden Ring has proven so popular on YouTube, it’s likely to do with the fact that this was many players’ first FromSoftware game.

Given how notoriously difficult FromSoftware’s games are, newcomers were likely looking for guidance on how to play and the Soulsborne community was there to oblige with tutorials and playthroughs.

It’s probably why, in terms of videos about specific boss fights, those showing off Margit, the Fell Omen were the most popular, since he’s one of the first really difficult encounters in the game, thus prompting people into looking up strategies on how to beat him.

The famous Malenia, Blade of Miquella unsurprisingly came second, considering her reputation for being so difficult that a common strategy is simply to call in assistance from another player.

Given how successful Elden Ring has been, we’re surprised Bandai Namco still hasn’t announced any DLC plans for it. Aside from the occasional new side quest, there hasn’t been any hint of a new expansion – despite all previous From games having them.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has said that the game will continue to receive updates in the foreseeable future, but he didn’t elaborate on whether this will include new content or just more patches.

Elden Ring is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
