WWE wrestler Ronda Rousey has been suspended for attacking an official at SummerSlam.

Officials at World Wrestling Entertainment confirmed Rousey has been fined and would not appear on Friday’s SmackDown after she attacked referee Dan Engler.

The superstar lost her fight against Liv Morgan at the SmackDown Women’s Title Match on Saturday in a controversial move which saw the referee decide Rousey had been pinned despite Morgan tapping out.

A furious Rousey went on to attack referee Engler in the ring following his decision after he apparently failed to see Morgan tapping out.

The 35-year-old pinned the ref in the ring after flipping him over her shoulder and had to be separated by the official by another staff member.

Staff at WWE wrote on their official website after the incident: ‘Following her attack on referee Dan Engler at SummerSlam, Ronda Rousey has been fined an undisclosed amount and will be suspended.’

They went on: ‘Due to her suspension, Rousey will not appear on this week’s Friday Night SmackDown.’

The same event saw former Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch suffer a separated shoulder, with the star now expected to miss ‘several months’ of action.

Appearing on WWE Raw, Lynch confirmed the injury as she sported a sling to address fans.

The star had failed to capture the title against Bianca Belair over the weekend, and salt was rubbed in the wounds as she was attacked by Bayley, Iyo Sky and Dakota Kai backstage.

Bayley’s crew are set to play another major roll when WWE rolls into Cardiff, Wales in September for the massively-anticipated Clash At The Castle.
