Gemma Owen is glad to be back home after landing the runner-up spot with partner Luca Bish in this year’s Love Island.
The 19-year-old international dressage rider, who landed back in London along with her fellow finalists on Wednesday, thanked her fans for their support over the course of her villa experience.
Taking to Instagram, Gemma uploaded a snap of herself sat on a bench with a glass in hand.
‘It’s so good to be back home after what has been an incredible and unforgettable experience,’ she penned. ‘I am genuinely so grateful for all the support throughout, thank you so much.
‘I’m looking forward to the next chapter now and will keep you updated on the journey.’
Gemma’s post comes after her partner Luca joked about being ‘protective’ of her following criticism of his behaviour.
Before they flew out of Majorca, the final four couples were holed up in a holding villa and hopped on several Instagram lives to greet their followers for the first time.
Luca and Andrew Le Page appeared in a short live together in which real estate agent asked: ‘Where is Gem? Oi, people are requesting Gem. People are requesting Gem, go get her.’
After taking over the camera, Luca said in a jokey manner: ‘You want Gem? You want Gem? No chance. I’m so protective. Nah.’
Luca’s joke was in response to the mounting criticism he received throughout the series for his ‘overprotectiveness’, which was addressed on several occasions in the villa.

Towards the end of this year’s Love Island, the fishmonger came under fire when he blew up over Gemma licking Adam Collard during a challenge.
His family fiercely defended him at the time, with a message posted on his social media account reading: ‘9/10 weeks of not contact with family. It’s a crazy intense environment where emotions are heightened.

‘So proud of how vulnerable and in touch with his emotions he’s been. Nothing but real.’
Luca’s mum also subtly hit back at the trolls when greeting her son at the airport in a top that read: ‘Head high and f*** em all.’
