Rebekah Vardy’s first interview since the conclusion of the Wagatha Christie trial has been branded as bad as Prince Andrew’s notorious Newsnight appearance.
The 40-year-old lost the headline-grabbing libel case last week, having been accused of leaking ‘false stories’ to the press from Coleen Rooney’s social media account.
Vardy took the sting operation to court accusing Rooney, 36, of defamation in a trial thought to have cost more than £3million.
Since the judge reached the verdict, Vardy has spoken publicly about the trial, giving her first on-screen interview with TalkTV’s Kate McCann just days after she appeared in court.
The interview prompted widespread criticism from the public and famous faces including Rooney’s pal Lizzie Cundy, who spoke about it on Thursday’s episode of Lorraine.
Cundy said going on TV was ‘without a doubt’ a mistake for the former Dancing On Ice star, branding the appearance ‘like Prince Andrew’s interview’ on Newsnight in which he was confronted over allegations he slept with Virginia Giuffre when she was 17.

The interview was dubbed a disaster, with the 62-year-old stepping away from royal duties shortly afterwards.
‘Different charges obviously,’ Cundy stressed. ‘But no-one’s believing it and if I were Rebekah I would’ve gone away, reflected, and maybe apologised. One thing I noticed was that there was no apology.’
Speaking to McCann, Vardy broke down in tears after she reflected on her husband Jamie Vardy’s support throughout the legal battle.
Vardy also claimed she hadn’t spoken to Rooney since the ruling was made, saying that she ‘made an attempt to contact her in November last year in a private message’.
‘She didn’t respond to it. She just gave that straight to the lawyers,’ Vardy said, before addressing the statement recently made by Rooney’s lawyer that his client didn’t want the case to go to trial and ‘tried hard’ to settle.
When asked whether she felt she should accept any blame for the situation, Vardy replied: ‘I didn’t do anything wrong. I didn’t do it.’

Meanwhile, the coverage of the Wagatha Christie trial isn’t going to die down any time soon, with a TV adaptation of the trial in the works.
Channel 4 has commissioned a TV drama about everything that has happened since Rooney’s memorable Instagram post in 2019, with fans wanting Jodie Comer and Emerald Fennell to take on the starring roles.
Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
