Sanjeev Bhaskar has provided a very welcome update on Unforgotten series 5 and we’re so ready to see what happens next.
The actor, who stars as DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan, will return alongside new cast member Sinéad Keenan after Nicola Walker’s heartbreaking exit as Cassie Stuart.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk at the premiere of The Sandman, Sanjeev explained: ‘We finished filming it about six weeks ago so we’ve got a little bit of post-production to do on it and I think it will be ready by the beginning of next year.
‘I think it’s really good and the story picks up some months after the events of the last series – we’ve got Sinead Keenan who’s come in, who’s fantastic, great fun to work with.
‘And obviously I miss Nicola in terms of working with her but I’ve seen her three times over the last couple of months anyway, we’re still really, really close. I’m looking forward to what the response will be.
‘It’s slightly different to previous ones and, in that – I don’t think this is a spoiler! The range of ages of the potential suspects is the widest we’ve ever had. I’ll leave you with that!’

Nicola departed the show after it was revealed her character Cassie died in a car crash in shocking scenes in series four, which aired in 2021.
Bafta nominee Sinead, 44, will join Sanjeev as DCI Jessica James for the new series.
Sinead, who starred in 2017 ITV hit drama Little Boy Bue, said: ‘I have long been an admirer of Chris Lang’s work so I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Unforgotten team.
‘I’m very much looking forward to working with the extraordinary cast led by the brilliant and incredibly lovely, Sanjeev Bhaskar.

‘And I’m hoping that if I play my cards right I might even get to take a peek in Sunny’s backpack!’
The new series of Unforgotten will open with the clock ticking down to Jessica’s first day in her new job – with a surprising and unsettling introduction to her family life, which threatens to derail her in the new job.
An ITV preview teases: ‘Determined to make a good first impression with her new colleagues, will Jess be in the right frame of mind to deliver and inspire the team?
‘And inevitably how will the ghost of much-loved former colleague Cassie Stuart haunt her? After all, Cassie will be big shoes for her to fill.
‘Does she have the resolve, professionalism and spirit to live up to her much-admired and respected predecessor?’
The opening case in the new series will see human remains discovered at a recently renovated period property.
Unforgotten series 5 will air on ITV.
