Melanie Lynskey has revealed she was bodyshamed while starring in Coyote Ugly, despite already being ‘as thin as [she] could possibly be’ for her own body.
The actress, 45, who played Gloria in the 2000 classic, says pressure was put on her to be even thinner than she was, despite already having restricted her eating to get down to a US size 4 (UK 8).
She revealed that the criticism about her body on set had an effect on her, telling The Hollywood Reporter: ‘All the girls had this regimen they had to go on. It was ridiculous.
‘I was already starving myself and as thin as I could possibly be for this body, and I was still a [size] four.
‘That was already people putting a lot of Spanx on me in wardrobe fittings and being very disappointed when they saw me, the costume designer being like, “Nobody told me there would be girls like you.”’
Melanie added that make-up artist would say they were ‘helping’ her by contouring more of a jawline for her with products, adding: ‘Just the feedback was constantly like, “You’re not beautiful. You’re not beautiful.”’

Drawing from her own experiences on film sets, Melanie says she feels protective over younger actresses and made sure to tell the Yellowjackets cast they were able to reach out to her for anything they needed or for her to talk to the producers for them.
Melanie also opened up about bodyshaming from Yellowjackets fans earlier in the year after facing trolling online.
She quote tweeted a post about body positivity in January before adding: ‘The story of my life since Yellowjackets premiered.
‘Most egregious are the “I care about her health!!” people… b***h you don’t see me on my Peleton! You don’t see me running through the park with my child. Skinny does not always equal healthy.’
