BBC radio personality Richie Anderson has been announced for Strictly Come Dancing 2022!
He’ll be joining Coronation Street’s Will Mellor and Kym Marsh, along with a host of other celebrities preparing to put on their dancing shoes and learn a bit of ballroom.
And it seems he’s pretty excited about it. He said: ‘This is a dream come true! I cannot wait to get in those sparkles and sequins and shimmy across the most famous dance floor in the world!
‘Strictly is the ultimate feel-good show, as soon as I hear that iconic theme tune it’s just pure escapism. I’m going to have to cancel my legendary Strictly launch night kitchen party that I throw every year, I’m sure my friends and family will understand.’
Many will be looking forward to Richie’s first dance – but if you’re not much of a radio listener, just who he is?

Who is Richie Anderson?

Richie Anderson is a radio and TV presenter, originally from the West Midlands.
The star, age unknown, is perhaps best known for his regular appearances on BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show, where he has presented the travel bulletins since 2019.
Richie recently provided coverage of Eurovision 2022 in Turin, documenting UK entry Sam Ryder’s rise to second place, for the station.
Some may also remember his 2021 appearance on Celebrity Mastermind, where his specialist subject was girl group The Saturdays.
He also presents on The One Show, various BBC One programmes and covered the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for the broadcaster.
Previously, he had his own show on BBC Radio WM (West Midlands), for several years, and formerly hosted Boxing Day show Girl Bands vs Boy Bands on BBC Sounds.
Richie has also been a footballer for Sunday League team Coombs Wood F.C.
In 2018, he presented a documentary segment for The One Show, in which he reported on the issue of homophobia in football, and personally came out as gay to his teammates.
Who is Richie Anderson’s partner?
Richie has been in a relationship with partner Dean Eagles for almost ten years.
Not too much is known about their romance publicly, though Richie does share the odd update on social media.
He recently revealed that they had embarked on a cruise of the Mediterranean to mark the milestone anniversary, stopping off at destinations such as Valencia, Portofino and Rome.
It’s also been confirmed that Richie will be paired up with a male professional dancer on Strictly, as GBBO’s John Whaite was last year with pro Johannes Radebe.
Richie said in his announcement: ‘It’s a massive honour to be part of an all-male dance partnership, it’s so important we have that inclusion on such a huge show.’
