Dua Lipa has called being named an honorary ambassador of Kosovo ‘a privilege’.
The British singer was born in London to Kosovo Albanian parents, with her family moving back to the country’s capital Pristina in 2008, shortly after Kosovo declared independence.
The 26-year-old, who casually modelled alongside Kim Kardashian and Nicole Kidman at Paris Couture Week in July, was invited to receive the special honorary ambassador medal and certificate by President Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu on Friday, in a reception alongside her family.
Dua, who was in Kosovo for Sunny Hill Festival, an annual event organised alongside her father, Dukagjin Lipa, posted photos on her social media as she reflected on the ‘honour’ of her new role.
‘It’s an honour and a privilege to be able to represent my country all over the world and to continue my work and efforts globally to see that we leave our mark and make a difference.
‘The youth of Kosovo deserves the right to visa liberalisation, freedom to travel and to dream big. Thank you.’

Pictures from the event showed the Levitating star – who is set to make her movie debut opposite Henry Cavill in thriller Argylle – dressed in an oversized olive blazer and long black maxi dress, accessorised with statement silver earrings.
She posed for pictures with President Osmani-Sadriu, who wore a summery cream trouser-suit, as well as engaging in a chat with her and both families.
Photos released by the government website also showed Dua meeting the politician’s husband and twin daughters, who presented her with a big bouquet of flowers.

The chart-topper also shared the letter that President Osmani-Sadriu had written to her, inviting her to accept the award as she told her of the country being ‘immensely proud of your success’.
‘Aside from being a world-class and a once-in-a-generation musician, you are also a role model for many girls and women across the world as a forthright and conscientious activist,’ the national leader wrote.

‘But above all, what you have done for the people of Kosovo, in raising awareness of the Republic of Kosovo is unmatched and truly invaluable.’
The president also added that she hoped they could ‘look at ways in which we can work together on causes we both feel strongly about including Kosovo’s international standing’.
