John Legend has revealed he was initially against being so open about the miscarriage of his and Chrissy Teigen’s baby, but is glad he changed his mind.

The married couple were left devastated when their son Jack died in September 2020 midway through Chrissy’s pregnancy.

They received praise around the world for sharing poignant photos of the moments after learning their baby boy had not survived, showing their raw emotions and harrowing pictures of Chrissy crying in her hospital bed as well as the couple holding Jack.

Last week, Chrissy, 36, shared the joyful news that she was pregnant and expecting her third child with husband John, 43; the two are also parents to daughter Luna, four, and son, Miles, two.

Reflecting on their devastating ordeal almost two years later, John said: ‘It was difficult and I was hesitant to share it. But I think Chrissy was really right in encouraging us to share it because I think it really was powerful for a lot of people and way more people than anybody realises go through this.’

Speaking on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, he continued: ‘And I think they feel alone a lot of times. They told us they felt alone a lot of times and us sharing our experience helped people feel less alone and feel like there were other people going through it and that there was a community of people going through it.

‘And I think it was a really powerful, wise decision by Chrissy to share it because it helped a lot of people.’

Of his own grieving process, the Grammy-winning singer said it ‘spreads over time so it doesn’t feel as heavy’.

However, he noted: ‘You’ll never forget it.’

Last Wednesday, former model Chrissy announced they were expecting another baby with gorgeous photos of her growing bump.

She addressed the miscarriage in her Instagram post, and explained that was why she felt ‘nervous’ to share her pregnancy news.

The former Lip Sync Battle presenter wrote: ‘The last few years have been a blur of emotions to say the least, but joy has filled our home and hearts again. 1 billion shots later (in the leg lately, as u can see!) we have another on the way.

‘Every appointment I’ve said to myself, “ok if it’s healthy today I’ll announce” but then I breathe a sigh of relief to hear a heartbeat and decide I’m just too nervous still.’

She added: ‘I don’t think I’ll ever walk out of an appointment with more excitement than nerves but so far, everything is perfect and beautiful and I’m feeling hopeful and amazing. Ok phew it’s been very hard keeping this in for so long!’
