Gladiators stars reveal true scale of injuries behind the scenes of hit 1990s series amid reboot rumours: ‘People had legs and arms in casts’-Meghna Amin-Entertainment – Metro

Famous faces from 1990s series Gladiators have revealed the true scale of injuries that occurred behind the scenes and kept hidden from viewers.
Amid rumours that the popular show is set for a comeback, Gladiators stars Lightening (Kim Betts), Saracen (Michael Lewis) and Hunter (James Crossley) appeared on This Morning.
The programme saw athletic TV fans battle as Contenders against the show’s mighty Gladiators, in events that test their speed, skill, stamina and strength.
However, the sports game show had more injuries than we ever saw.
‘There were a few injuries going about,’ Saracen began, explaining how some of the games, like Powerball, were more contact-heavy.
‘There’s no retakes,’ Hunter added, saying: ‘As with any contact-sport there’s always a chance of injuries.’
He continued: ‘Over the ten years, a few shoulders popped and knees.’

Lightening added: ‘There were a lot more injuries than the viewers saw or were aware of.
‘Quite a few people had operations or ended up in hospital.
‘Backstage, there was so much going on backstage than what you would see in the arena.

‘People were being pushed around in wheelchairs, people had their legs in casts, arms in casts.
‘There’s the physio room,’ she added, with Hunter explaining: ‘It was mainly the falls, because you just never know how you were going to land.’
The news follows rumours that Gladiators will be back, and is reportedly set to return on BBC One.

The original series of Gladiators hit our television screens in 1992 and was broadcast on ITV, lasting for eight seasons until 2000.

According to TV news publication Broadcast, the iconic family entertainment show will be brought back, but this time to the BBC, by MGM Studios and Hungry Bear.

It’s expected to be shot in Sheffield Arena next year, meaning there is likely to be an opportunity for the public to go and watch all the fun take place.
