Kris Marshall has never actually watched an episode of Doctor Who, despite being constantly linked to the show.
Before Ncuti Gatwa was announced as the new Time Lord earlier this year, Kris was in the running for the role, and was a favourite to replace Jodie Whittaker last year.
However, while his name may have been circulating around the new role, the Love Actually star has never even been approached, nor actually seen an episode.
He revealed to Radio Times: ‘If I’d been approached to audition for a show at the vanguard of TV for the last 50 years, I’d at least have done my research, but I’ve never seen an episode of Doctor Who.
‘I’m sure it’s brilliant, but no, I’ve never been approached.’
Offering an explanation for why his name constantly crops up, the Death in Paradise actor added: ‘I left Death in Paradise at around the same time as Peter Capaldi left Doctor Who, so the tabloids must have put two and two together to make five.’

Kris is set to return as DI Humphrey Goodman in a Death in Paradise spin-off, titled Beyond Paradise.
Marshall played the lead role in the Caribbean-set BBC detective drama for three series between 2014 and 2017 before being replaced by Ardal O’Hanlon.

Beyond Paradise will explore what happens to his character after his departure from sunny Saint Marie after falling in love with island tourist Martha Lloyd, played by Not Going Out star Sally Bretton.
Speaking of the spin-off, he shared: ‘We start shooting in a couple of weeks. I’m extremely excited.
‘It’s carrying on from where we left Humphrey Goodman and Martha [Sally}, with their new bucolic south-western lifestyle.

‘The classic Death in Paradise way of wrapping up the show is spun on its head a bit – not every episode is a murder – so more sheep rustling and stuff like that!
‘It puts an English Riviera spin on the show people know and love. Who needs the Caribbean?’
Sex Education Ncuti was announced as the 14th Time Lord earlier this year, as he follows in the footsteps of Jodie, Peter and Matt Smith.
The star explained to Metro.co.uk what he’s going to bring to the role, saying at the 2022 TV Baftas: ‘Just myself, I think actors are incredible people that put so much of themselves into roles and so each one is going to be really different.’

‘Each Doctor that’s gone before has been so incredibly talented and so incredibly brilliant, I don’t know how I’m going to follow in their footsteps but I’m going to try my best!’
