Simon Cowell has mourned the death of America’s Got Talent contestant Nolan Neal.

The musician died last month at the age of 41, and was found at his Nashville home.

His cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Following the news, the music mogul shared his grief in a new interview, sharing what he has learned about life from the loss.

‘Unfortunately, it happens too much over the years,’ Cowell, 62, said. ‘I was thinking about this the other day. People [who] passed too soon. Every time it happens, because you’ve got to know them, it’s horrible.

‘The unfortunate thing is it’s happened too many times and every time it happens, it’s hard.’

The X Factor judge also referenced the death of celebrated AGT contestant Jane ‘Nightbirde’ Marczewski, who died in February after a battle with cancer.

‘After the last three years, it’s been tough. And then, you think everything’s okay and then something hits you like a story like that and it’s hard,’ he added to People Magazine. ‘But all I can say is, what I’ve learned from this, is that you just take every day as it is and you try and stay positive, you try and stay healthy.

‘You’re never prepared for these days.’

Nolan took part in season 15 of AGT, which aired on our screens in 2020 – auditioning with a song called Lost, which he penned after overcoming substance abuse issues.

He left the judges – made up of Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandell – impressed with the track, with the audience giving him a standing ovation.

‘The hook of this song is, “Lost for the last time”,’ he told them on stage. ‘It’s about someone who thinks that they don’t deserve anything because of the things they’ve done.

‘I hope that it connects with you all, that will be the real win for me.’

Neal added in a VT: ‘Simon, he knows real talent when he sees it, so if I am just kind of a washed-up singer, I know he’ll tell me. I’m glad to be here today, sober, very clear and focused.

He sailed through to the quarterfinals of the competition, which was eventually won by poet Brandon Leake.

As well as this, he took part on the Voice USA in season 10, in 2016 – where he ended up on Adam Levine’s team but was eliminated in the knockout round.
