Indian Matchmaking star Aparna Shewakramani hasn’t spoken to Sima Taparia in years, the matchmaker in the Netflix series who has been jet-setting around the world to set up clients on dates.

In the first series, which hit our screens in 2020, Aparna was one of Sima’s clients, and hoped to be successfully matched and set-up with the man of her dreams.

However, things didn’t quite work out, and in fact, none of Sima’s clients from series one were successfully matched.

This time around, Sima is reuniting with some of the first season’s stars, like Aparna, as well as Pradhyuman Maloo and Nadia Jagessar.

While Pradhyuman is celebrating being newly-married, to someone Sima didn’t match him with, Nadia is continuing to work with Sima and go on dates, leaving it up to the matchmaker to give her bio-datas to choose from.

Aparna however, is taking a different route this series, and is no longer working as one of Sima’s clients.

In fact, the two haven’t spoken in years.

In an exclusive chat with Metro.co.uk, Aparna shared: ‘I don’t work with her in season two and I haven’t spoken to her in years,’ adding: ‘It was a choice that I made and it was just best for me personally.’

Aparna continued: ‘I do matchmaking in a cool new way and I think viewers will really love to see that part of matchmaking as well.’

‘I actually kind of go at it alone this time, and I try different avenues of matchmaking.

‘I think there are so many ways that we can be matchmade, through our communities and through our friends and so I think it will be fun for the viewer to see an alternate version of matchmaking through my story.’

In the first series, Sima paired Aparna with Jay Wadhwani, but they ended up just staying friends, and like all the couples from series one, were not succesfully matchmade.

Speaking about the low success rate from the first series, Aparna commented: ‘You caught us at a period of our lives in that show, and if I catch any seven months in your life or nine months, it might not be the months you find love.

‘So I don’t think success is based on a lack of successes, it was just our timing and I believe everyone has their own timing and for me that was an important experience and it helped me with a personal journey of my love story of loving myself.

‘To me that’s the ultimate love story. Whether I find love on this show or elsewhere, or now or already have, it doesn’t matter. But for me my main love purpose is to continue to grow this relationship with myself – the ultimate love story.’

Indian Matchmaking series two is now available to watch on Netflix.
