Nine years after competing on Britain’s Got Talent and being inches away from clinching the win, comedian Jack Carroll is starring in a BBC short film that he’s written himself.

In 2013, the then-14-year-old wowed the judges and members of the public at home with his comedic acts, scoring over 20% of the final vote to finish as the runner-up behind shadow theatre group Attraction.

Now 23, the performer, whose cerebral palsy is often the subject of his material, is appearing in a short film called Mobility, from TV production company Tiger Aspect, which is set to air on BBC iPlayer.

The programme is about a group of students who are heading to their first day of sixth form, with the trio all riding the mobility bus together.

There are three main characters: Mike, who has cerebral palsy, Sonny, who uses a wheelchair, and Dan ‘Syndrome’ Simmons, who has Down’s Syndrome.

Described as a mix of ‘The Inbetweeners meets Car Share’, the film is a ‘passion project’ for Jack, who doesn’t want viewers to jump to the conclusion that the short is only ‘about disability’.

In 2019, Jack made a comeback on Britain’s Got Talent by starring in the spin-off series The Champions.

He competed in the third preliminary, but was eliminated before having a chance to make it to the grand final, losing out to salsa dancers Paddy & Nico, who were put through by judge David Walliams, and illusionist Darcy Oake, who won the audience vote.

Before appearing on BGT: The Champions, Jack spoke to Metro.co.uk about how much it would mean to him to take part in the series, thanking the show for giving him ‘a huge platform to be able to push on in my career’.

‘I’m forever in their debt really,’ he said at the time.

The comedian continued: ‘It’s the sort of capacity Britain’s Got Talent has in order to change ordinary people’s lives and put them out into the public consciousness’.

Ahead of his BGT: The Champions performance, he was pictured reuniting with Simon Cowell behind the scenes, before poking fun at the media mogul’s teeth during his stand-up act.

During the routine, the performer also took some more swipes at the judges, claiming that Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden had Botox, which Alesha denied.
