Celebrity MasterChef whittled down the competition further tonight, with comedian Kae Kurd just missing out on the quarter finals.

Kae, 30, was one of five stars to make up the first week of heats on Celebrity MasterChef this week.

Wednesday’s episode saw Nancy Dell O’lio eliminated from the process, but tonight, it was Kae’s turn to go.

The British-Kurdish star had a bit of a disaster with his floating islands, a technically challenging meringue dish, which John Torode tasked to each contestant.

His creme Anglais was left scrambled, while his meringue wasn’t properly cooked and caramel topping burnt.

This left John admitting: ‘The egg’s separated and it actually smells like scrambled egg, so I don’t want to eat it.’

While he managed to claw things back a bit further on, he and Gregg Wallace both agreed it was his time to leave the competition.

Upon being eliminated, Kae said: ‘Obviously gutted but I came in with the skills I did and I’ve left with more skills.

‘I’ve learnt a lot, that’s what it’s about, isn’t it. You can’t win them all!’

This meant Love Island’s Faye Winter, 27, TV legend Paul Chuckle, 74, and McFly’s Danny Jones, 36, all made it through to the quarter-finals.

Paul was left amazed after the news, telling viewers: ‘That’s unbelievable isn’t it, to be in the quarter-finals!’

Faye weighed in: ‘My last dish was on the cusp, I was stressed, got a headache from making it.

‘It was all worth it now,’ she added, after struggling with timing on her rhubarb and custard pasties.

Meanwhile, Danny, who may be the show’s most enthusiastic contestant ever, was sent straight through by John and Gregg and was ‘buzzing’ for more to come.

‘I’m buzzing, but worried I’m running out of dishes I can do! Think I’m going to go and practice,’ he laughed.

They will battle it out on Friday night, where just two will make it through to the next stage of the competition – but who will make it to the semi-finals?

Celebrity MasterChef continues tomorrow night at 8pm on BBC One.
