Jerry Seinfeld couldn’t resist pointing out that he’d helped Friends to become one of the biggest shows in television history, Lisa Kudrow claims.

According to the Phoebe Buffay star, she encountered the Seinfeld actor at a party where he playfully said his show, which is known as one of the most influential series of all time, boosted Friends’ viewership.

‘I remember going to some party and Jerry Seinfeld was there, and I said, “Hi,” and he said, “You’re welcome”,’ Lisa recalled.

‘I said, “Why, thank you … what?”.

Lisa added to the Daily Beast that Jerry continued: ‘You’re on after us in the summer, and you’re welcome.’

While the first season of Friends was aired after Mad About You, the reruns were broadcast after the reruns of Seinfeld in the summer of 1995.

And Lisa appreciates that Jerry may have actually been onto something.

‘Not to take anything away from the writing on Friends, or the cast, or how good Friends really was, but the first season our ratings were just fine,’ she told the publication.

Lisa’s Jerry revelation comes after she shared that she battled body dysmorphia while filming the beloved sitcom after seeing herself on the show.

In a recent interview, she explained how she would constantly compare herself to her co-stars Courteney Cox and Jennifer Aniston and sought their advice on tailoring, only to discover that tweaking her costumes didn’t help the way she felt.

Opening up in an episode of the Podcrushed podcast, Lisa said: ‘It wasn’t until Friends that I realised, “Oh, I don’t look like I thought how I thought I looked” and that’s what was so jarring.

‘Seeing myself on the show and seeing myself in clothes and seeing Courteney and Jennifer in clothes, at first I thought, “Oh, they know tailoring so they can discuss it with the costume designer about where exactly to take something in”.’

Lisa asked Courteney and Jennifer to come with her to her fittings so they could weigh in on the tailoring, but ultimately this didn’t help to make her feel any different about her body.

‘That’s when I would see it’s not just about tailoring,’ she continued. ‘I’m not trying to say I was overweight either, I was not.

‘I just had no idea of the actual shape of my actual body.’

Lisa explained that it took quite some time for her to accept her view of her body, admitting it wasn’t until her late 30s or 40s that she began to embrace it.

‘I just realised it’s okay, this is just what I look like [and] that’s okay. I mean, do what you need to do to be healthy but if this is your body, it’s okay.’

Friends is available to stream on Netflix.
