Never Have I Ever star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan has welcomed the new season three cast members, including Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe’s son Deacon, as the hit Netflix series returns to screens.

Maitreyi plays Devi Vishwakumar as she navigates high school, her relationship with her mum and her crush on Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet), and things have finally fallen into place.

But, as with any relationship in Devi’s world, there’s always some drama, especially as things with Paxton start to heat up.

As well as managing her love life, Devi is, as ever, caught up in her emotions about school, where Reese and Ryan’s eldest child Deacon features.

The 18-year-old guest stars as Parker, a debate student whose team is competing against Devi’s.

Speaking about him joining the cast, in an exclusive interview with Metro.co.uk, Maitreyi shared: ‘Honestly it was so awesome. ‘You know, the family is getting bigger.’

She added: ‘He’s the bomb, he’s my boba buddy’ joking that they could talk about bubble tea ‘for days’.

‘It’s really fun to bring in new people!’

Elsewhere, Maitreyi gushed about producer Mindy Kaling, saying: ‘I mean, she’s amazing. I love working with her so much. She is so brilliant.’

She continued: ‘She’s so smart, so talented, but also just such a good human being.

‘I vibe with her like a lot. Just our personalities, we get along really well.

‘And she’s the kind of person that I could just tell anything to without feeling judged or worried.

‘She is truly the bomb.’

Over the last two seasons, viewers have caught Devi changing from the ‘loser’ in high-school to Paxton’s girlfriend with a ‘skyrocketing social status’.

Along the way, she’s grieved over her father, come to terms with her cultural roots, and started dating the man of her dreams, but is that all about to change with the arrival of Des (Anriduh Pisharody)?

Talking about the favourite parts of playing her character through her wild high school journey, Maitreyi told us: ‘Devi feels a lot, she gets angry, she gets sad, she gets really happy.

‘She really has strong emotions – and I think that’s my favourite part.

‘Just the other day, I was watching a bunch of clips from all the different seasons, and it really was honestly emotional to watch this character have a true hero’s journey.

‘She really goes through it and leaves the show where she’s growing immensely.’

Never Have I Ever season 3 is available to watch on Netflix.
