Beyonce might have blessed us with her Renaissance album only recently, but it turns out one of the tracks has actually been in the works since 2014.

Thique, which features on the new album, first began life in 2014 when producer Hit-Boy, who worked on Jay Z and Kanye West’s N****s In Paris, teamed up with Bey on two tracks.

The first of which became the Nicki Minaj collab Feeling Myself which was released that same year, with the other beat remaining on the back burner for years to come, finally becoming Thique in 2022.

Hit-Boy revealed on Rolling Stone Music Now: ‘I had to sit on that beat for eight years! That’s the way the game goes sometimes.

‘I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in the game and certain people will perceive like, “Oh, where’s Hit-Boy been? What’s Hit-Boy been doing?”

‘But then I’m sitting on stuff like Thique that just hasn’t materialised yet. Y’all don’t even know how ahead I really am… I’ve been holding onto legendary stuff, and there’s plenty more.’

Thique finally made it onto Renaissance

Beyonce had initially come up with a few ideas for the beat but put it to one side until Renaissance, adding a separate beat for the first 36 seconds, made by Megan Thee Stallion collaborator Lil Ju.

Hit-Boy also worked with Bey on 2019’s Bow Down, for which he took direct inspiration from N****s in Paris.

He explained: ‘I was basically trying to make a N****s in Paris, female version. With that bounce, with that synth.

‘Obviously you look at the lyrics, she’s talking crazy, talking rapper s**t. So just to bring that energy out and go to her stadium shows and see the reaction is like, wow. The energy I was trying to convey really went over.’
