Teddy Rae, a comedian and viral star, has died at the age of 32, Comedy Central confirmed. 

Ray, who celebrated his birthday two weeks ago, had been a rising star in the comedy scene, appearing on All Def Digital and season eight of MTV’s Wild ‘N Out.

Comedy Central paid tribute to Ray, sharing a photo of him on stage and tweeting: ‘Teddy Ray was a hilarious and beloved performer. He’ll be deeply missed by the entire comedy community.’

Issa Rae’s media company, Hoorae, also shared their condolences alongside a photo of Ray with the team. 

They tweeted: ‘Rest in Power to our longtime creative collaborator and friend, Teddy Ray. Grateful for the energy you always brought to our projects and sets!’

Emmy winner Loni Love commented: ‘Teddy Ray one funny a** MF… he loved comedy and people.. I hate getting older.. too many folks I know are passing.. Live your best life like Teddy did…’

Katt Williams also shared videos and tributes to the comedian, hailing him ‘brilliant’ and adding; ‘Gone too soon.’

Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson commented on Ray’s final Instagram post: ‘Heartbroken. Gonna miss you teddy.’

Ray found fame performing live stand-up as well as regularly being featured in YouTube sketches including for All Def Digital. 

Many of his clips also went viral, leading to him building up a strong fanbase and social media presence.

He appeared on Wild ’N Out as well as being featured on the HBO Max series Pause with Sam Jay.

Ray’s death comes a month after fellow coming Jak Knight died, with Ray having paid tribute to Knigh on Instagram in July.

He had posted at the time: ‘It took me forever to type this i ain’t think you’d leave me this tearful. Love you 4ver Jak Knight.’

Ray’s cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
