The Los Angeles Police Department have confirmed that the investigation into the crash that caused Anne Heche’s death has been closed.

The actress was declared dead on Friday at the age of 53, a week after she was injured when her car crashed into a house in Los Angeles, before bursting into flames.

Heche had been taken to hospital where she later fell into a coma from which she never woke up.

The LAPD confirmed to the Associated Press that the investigation into the crash has been closed in light of Heche’s death.

It said in a statement: ‘As of today, there will be no further investigative efforts made in this case. Any information or records that have been requested prior to this turn of events will still be collected as they arrive as a matter of formalities and included in the overall case.

‘When a person suspected of a crime expires, we do not present for filing consideration.’

Heche had been declared brain dead, which qualifies a person to be legally considered dead in the state of California, though her representative confirmed that her heart had been kept beating by life support while matches were sought for her organs to be donated.

Heche’s son, Homer Laffoon, shared a statement on behalf of him and his brother Atlas after their mother’s death was confirmed.

He said: ‘My brother Atlas and I lost our Mom. After six days of almost unbelievable emotional swings, I am left with a deep, wordless sadness.

‘Hopefully my mom is free from pain and beginning to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom.

‘Over those six days, thousands of friends, family, and fans made their hearts known to me. I am grateful for their love, as I am for the support of my Dad, Coley, and my stepmom Alexi who continue to be my rock during this time. Rest In Peace Mom, I love you.’
