BBC Marriage viewers blast ‘abysmal sound quality’ during Sean Bean drama: ‘TV volume is at 65 and I can’t hear a thing’-Stella Akinwumi-Entertainment – Metro

BBC viewers all shared the same complaint during the first episode of Marriage.
The gripping drama – which stars Game of Thrones’ Sean Bean and Unforgotten actress Nicola Walker – follows Ian and Emma a married couple dealing with the highs and lows of being in a long-lasting relationship.
The official synopsis reads: ‘Ian and Emma get back from their holiday in Spain and return to their normal lives. Ian has recently been made redundant and is beginning to adapt to his new existence.
‘Emma is doing well at work and trying to balance that with Ian’s feelings. Then their daughter Jessica gets in touch and wants to bring her boyfriend round to meet them.’
While fans were ready to tune into BBC’s latest drama, many became quickly confused by the sound quality, or lack thereof.
One person quipped: ‘Are we the only ones who’ve had to put the subtitles on because we can’t hear the sound?! I feel like I’m 105.’
‘Can Sean Bean speak up a bit. TV volume is at 65 and i can’t hear a thing,’ another added.
‘Turned the sound up on #marriage cos couldn’t hear it properly then the theme tune scared me half to death,’ a third person tweeted.
The first episode saw Ian adjusting to his new normal after being made redundant, while Emma’s professional life continues to flourish.
However, the parents aren’t too thrilled when their daughter Jessica (Chantelle Alle) introduces them to her new boyfriend Adam (Jack Holden).

Marriage’s writer-director Stefan Golaszewski recently explained that the show’s original scripts were reworked with the actors in mind.
‘Marriage is a show about a couple and how they get through things together,’ he told BBC Blogs.

‘I guess I’m trying to write about what it is actually like to be a person instead of what it is like on television or in fiction.
‘Casting Nicola and Sean was great as I was able to rewrite the scripts with them in mind and strip away as much dialogue as I could, knowing I had two amazing actors who could do all that for me, which I prefer. I like having as few words as possible for a scene.’
