Strictly Come Dancing fans were left asking ‘what’s occurring?’ after BBC Three announced a beloved TV character would be strapping on their dancing shoes in the hopes of snatching the Glitterball trophy.
A tweet posted on Friday said Nessa, portrayed by Ruth Jones, from Gavin and Stacey would be the latest star joining the cast.
‘Oh! What’s occurring?” Nessa is bringing Barry Island to the ballroom as the 20th celebrity contestant confirmed for #Strictly 2022,’ the post said.
The account also added a link to find out more, which led users to the Gavin & Stacey box set on BBC iPlayer.
BBC Three later held their hands up and admitted to the prank, posting: ‘Sorry @bbcpress and @bbcstrictly our hand slipped,’ with a gif of Nessa from the show including one of the character’s many quotable lines: ‘I won’t lie to you.’
The show already features a star-studded cast with EastEnders star James Bye, Countryfile presenter Hamza Yassin, pop star Fleur East, football icon Tony Adams MBE, Britain’s Got Talent’s Molly Rainford, comedian and author Ellie Taylor, Bros heartthrob Matt Goss, Kiss FM DJ Tyler West, Paralympian Ellie Simmonds, comedian Jayde Adams, Loose Women presenter Kaye Adams, Radio 2 host Richie Anderson, Hear’Say singer and soap star Kym Marsh, and former Hollyoaks actor Will Mellor.

Helen Skelton was announced as the 15th and final contestant on the line-up.
The news was announced on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday morning by Strictly host Claudia Winkleman, who will be returning to her position in the ballroom alongside Tess Daley.
Speaking on her casting, 39-year-old TV presenter Helen said: ‘I’m really excited to get stuck into a fun adventure.
‘My family and friends have always loved the show and can’t wait for me to get started.’
Strictly Come Dancing returns later this year to BBC One.
