Fearne Cotton has shared her devastation over the death of her beloved pet cat after 21 years together.

The former BBC Radio 1 presenter, who shot to fame over 20 years ago when she joined CBBC, shared the sad news with picture of her pet Keloy on Instagram on Tuesday afternoon, paying tribute to her but writing that it was ‘impossible to explain what she meant to me and our family on a tiny square on social media’.

Leading with a photo of herself and Keloy on the floor, looking seriously into each other’s eyes, Fearne wrote of the black and white cat: ‘Yesterday I said goodbye to Keloy after 21 years. I had been dreading this but knew it was on the cards.

‘Keloy wasn’t just a pet, she was a friend and a family member. She lived a life of true service, giving each of us unwavering love, comfort and loyalty.’

Other snaps showed Keloy enjoying a snooze on a chunky knit woolly blanket, curled up on the sofa and having her tail stroked by Fearne’s husband of eight years, Jesse Wood.

Talking about picking her up from a rescue over two decades ago, the TV and radio star went on: ‘I got Keloy (along with my other late cat Lula) from @themayhew twenty one years ago and brought her back to my little house in Harrow. Since then we moved all over London together. She sat by my side through the best and worst times and gave me a consistency I lacked elsewhere.

‘It’s impossible to explain what she meant to me and our family on a tiny square on social media. The love was too big and bold.’

She added: ‘I will miss looking into her big green eyes and snuggling up to her on the sofa. She was a wise and beautiful soul.

‘I know she was ready to go. There was a contentment about her in the final weeks. I am mostly just grateful I had so long with her. Love you my angel. 🙏🏼’

The Happy Place podcaster was comforted by friends and followers in the comments, with Martine McCutcheon writing: ‘So sorry darling Fearne. Glad you had her love in your life though 🙏🏽 Xxxxx’

‘Noooooooooooo!!!! So sorry Fearne! Xxx,’ posted Queen of the Jungle Giovanna Fletcher, while her sister-in-law, West End star and YouTuber Carrie Hope Fletcher added: ‘So sorry, Fearne. I know this love only too well. My rescue is my little rock through it all. Sending so much love ❤️’

‘Text incoming. I love you,’ promised Fearne’s pal Dawn O’Porter.

Fearne was also heartbroken by cat Lula’s death in December last year, calling her cat her ‘best mate of 20 years’.

‘It feels like the end of an era as I literally can’t remember a time before she was in my world,’ she shared.
