The Repair Shop has once again given us an absolute tear-jerker of a story, after restoring a statue owned by Nigel, a man who lost his sight at the age of 19.

Nigel, who came into the shop with his wife Karen, was diagnosed with optic neuritis, a swelling of the optic nerve, in his late teens, which caused him to lose his sight overnight.

He asked the team to restore a beloved statue – a bulldog barman figure holding up a tray, which the pair of them dubbed Boozy Barman.

‘Ever since I lost my sight, I’ve always liked material things that are very, very tactile,’ Nigel explained, with Karen adding that she’ll often find him stroking Boozy’s ear.

However, a recent house move resulted in disaster after Nigel was unaware of a box Boozy was in, and walked into it, with the dog losing an ear and getting a crack down his back.

It was a job for Kirsten Ramsay, who admitted it was going to be ‘tricky’ to restore Boozy to exactly the texture Nigel was used to – however, when Nigel returned, he was left overwhelmed by the results.

‘I’ve got tears in my eyes, i’m glad i’ve got dark glasses on,’ he admitted, describing Kirsten’s work as ‘phenomenal’.

‘I will not walk into him again!’ he promised.

As Nigel left, he delightedly promised Boozy he’d ‘see him at home’.

Some viewers were also left emotional, with one declaring: ‘Why am I crying at a monocled dog!’

‘In what is a surprise to no one, Kirsten has once again done a magnificent repair job,’ another said, ‘You can sense the joy he feels as he touches it and finds it whole again.’

One more added: ‘Stupid grin on face time. Well done Kirsten.’
