Jonah Hill ‘immediately hated’ Christopher Mintz-Plasse during Superbad audition: ‘He was really annoying to me’-Rishma Dosani-Entertainment – Metro
How could you hate McLovin?!
McLovin might have gone down as one of the most quotable characters in movie history but it turns out that Jonah Hill wasn’t an automatic fan of actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
In fact, the 38-year-old, who played teenager Seth, ‘immediately hated’ his Superbad co-star before filming even started.
Celebrating the 15th anniversary of the iconic comedy, which also starred Emma Stone, Michael Cera and Bill Hader, the cast took a stroll down memory lane and let us all in on the gossip that never made the big screen.
Seth Rogen, who co-wrote the flick and starred as Officer Michaels, recalled that the pair instantly didn’t get on during a screen test – which actually worked for the dynamic of their characters.
‘Jonah immediately hated him. He was like, “That was f**king with my rhythm. I couldn’t perform with that guy,”’ he spilled about Christopher’s – aka Fogell – audition.
Producer Judd Apatow remembered that he was ‘very caustic and attacked Jonah and did improvs insulting Jonah,’ which probably led to some of the issues that the Oscar-nominee had.

‘Jonah said, “I don’t like that guy. I don’t want him doing it.” And I said, “That’s exactly why we’re hiring him. It couldn’t be more perfect. The fact that it bothers you is exactly what we want,”’ he continued to Vanity Fair.
‘Chris was really, really amazing off the bat. And I think he was really annoying to me at that time,’ Jonah shared, as his co-star admitted that he was ‘nervous’ to be in the mix.
‘It was my first movie, and I was nervous,’ he added, revealing that the role changed his entire life – and led to him getting recognized on the street and at restaurants.

The news comes after Jonah confirmed that he has decided to stop promoting his upcoming films, for the sake of his mental health.
The Wolf of Wall Street actor penned an open letter in which he explained his decision to take a step back from public-facing appearances, after years of battling anxiety.
Ahead of the release of his upcoming documentary Stutz, which follows his ‘journey of self-discovery’ and visits with therapist Phil Stutz, he announced that he would be making changes to his schedule.
‘The whole purpose of making this film is to give therapy and the tools I’ve learned in therapy to a wide audience for private use through an entertaining film,’ he began. ‘The whole purpose of making this film is to give therapy and the tools I’ve learned in therapy to a wide audience for private use through an entertaining film.

‘Through this journey of self-discovery within the film, I have come to the understanding that I have spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks, which are exacerbated by media appearances and public facing events.’
Jonah shared how ‘grateful’ he is that Stutz will be seen at various film festivals, and hopes that it will ‘help those struggling’.
‘However, you won’t see me out there promoting this film, or any of my upcoming films, while I take this important step to protect myself,’ he continued. ‘If I made myself sicker by going out there and promoting it, I wouldn’t be acting true to myself or to the film.

‘I usually cringe at letters or statements like this but I understand that I am of the privileged few who can afford to take time off. I won’t lose my job while working on my anxiety.’
‘With this letter and with Stutz, I’m hoping to make it more normal for people to talk and act on this stuff,’ Jonah added. ‘So they can take steps towards feeling better and so that the people in their lives might understand their issues more clearly.
‘I hope the work will speak for itself and I’m grateful to my collaborators, my business partners and to all reading this for your understanding and support.’
