Children have little more to worry about than completing homework and forcing down greens, but apparently some TV bosses want the little oiks to have a bit more on their plates.

While Blue Peter was responsible for some truly wholesome moments, and Lizo Mzimba became an icon for informing little ones on Newsround, there have also been some truly bonkers moments on kids’ TV.

From dark punishments to visions of death and everything in between, some scenes have raised more than an eyebrow – and have even been banned by network bosses.

Even the best-loved shows have not been immune to a bit of controversy, including Peppa Pig and a very creepy sequence in Hey Arnold!.

Here are some of the most shocking moments in children’s TV shows.

Terrifying Teletubbies

An episode of the hit show following the antics of Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po was deemed so terrifying it was censored across the world.

Sparking outrage from parents, who complained in their droves, the 1997 clip featured an unintentionally creepy looking cut out lion and a bear, and their eerie voices booming from the sky.

‘I am the big scary lion with big scary teeth,’ said the lion.

It scared the Noo Noo out of kids and, to this day, the episode titled See-Saw is banned by CBeebies.

Bluey ‘breaks wind’

Bluey is a hit Australian children’s TV show which follows the adventures of a six-year-old Blue Heeler puppy as well as her friends and family.

However, an episode titled Family Meeting reportedly didn’t go down well with Disney Plus in the US, with bosses at the streamer ‘banning’ the episode.

The reason? Some, er, flatulence.

In the episode in question, Bluey’s dad, Bandit, is accused of farting in front of his eldest daughter while getting out of bed.

While the clip was reportedly pulled from screens, it’s since been claimed the Mouse House is ‘reevaluating’ the decision.

Peeing Pingu

Look, we’ve all been there. We’ve all had one of those nights when the tequila tastes too good or the rum starts flowing.

It really does happen to all of us – penguins included.

In the hilarious episode of Pingu, the titular character is seen downing his drink like there’s no tomorrow.

There are going to be consequences to having such a big slurp and the beloved bird fails to keep it in when nature calls.

Pingu is seen p***ing all over the bathroom floor, just centimetres away from the toilet. Oh dear.

His angry father comes storming in and shouts at his son, who is made to scrub the floor clean.

‘Fat-shaming’ Peppa Pig

Among those to have called out Peppa Pig for repeatedly ‘fat-sharming’ Daddy Pig is comedian Jason Manford.

The 41-year-old took to his Absolute Radio show to jokingly complain about the jibes made about the older swine’s weight.

‘I’ve got to say – and maybe it’s because I’m a big lad myself – but the constant fat shaming of Daddy Pig is starting to get a little bit under my skin,’ he explained.

‘They mention his big tummy all the time.’

In one particular episode, titled The Playground, Daddy Pig is laughed at and mocked by him fam when he gets stuck halfway up a slide.

Hair-raising Hey Arnold!

If this doesn’t send a chill down your spine, I don’t know what will.

Hey Arnold! followed the exploits of Arnold, who lived with his grandparents in New York City, as he navigated friendships and school.

So far, so innocent.

But in one petrifying scene from the 90s coming-of-age ‘toon, Arnold dozes off and has a daydream turned nightmare.

The blonde-haired kid envisages himself as an elderly man sitting next to an aged Gerald on a bus, before it bizarrely cuts to a decomposing zombie version of his actual grandfather.

Violence in The Ren & Stimpy Show

Titled Man’s Best Friend, the controversial episode of The Ren & Stimpy Show was pulled before airing on Nickelodeon in 1992.

Ren gets mad with George Liquor, who has been trying to discipline him, and bashes him multiple times with an oar for more than 20 seconds.

Looking delighted and smiling manically as he carried out his sustained attack, show bosses decided, unsurprisingly, the episode was too violent.

However, it did air more than a decade later for the soft launch of Spike TV.

Thomas the Tank Engine gets punishing

In the Sad Story Of Henry, the green locomotive doesn’t want to ruin his paint in the rain so refuses to get out of the tunnel.

Fair enough, right?

But his actions really dampened the spirits of the Fat Controller who, as punishment, bricks up a terrified Henry, who still has not budged.

In fact, viewers never saw the engine see the light of day again as the episode ended with Henry left alone – and trapped – in the dark. Yikes.
