Serge Pizzorn has admitted he ‘never wanted’ to be the frontman of Kasabian after Tom Meighan’s departure in 2020.
Singer Meighan’s exit was announced the day before he pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend Vikki Ager, with his bandmates branding his behaviour as ‘totally unacceptable’.
The rock band announced a new line-up shortly after and Serge and his bandmates only performed their first live shows as Kasabian reborn a matter of weeks ago.
However, Serge seems to have stumbled into the bandleader position somewhat unexpectedly.
‘I never wanted to be a frontman’, he admitted.
‘I never saw that – I didn’t think that was ever gonna be part of my life, but now it is’, the musician told NME.

On how the reshuffling influenced the group’s sound, he added: ‘So, when sitting down with the boys and figuring that out, I then had to make the choice of, “How do I do it? How do I approach it?” If I’m gonna do anything, then I’m gonna do it my way.’
‘I think the music that I’ve made and the band that we are, we’ve done it our own way’, he stated.
And despite his reluctance to take the helm, Serge has led the band to victory once more as Kasabian have scored not their second, not their third, but their sixth number one album.

The Leicester-born rock group – comprising also of Chris Edwards, Ian Matthews, and Tim Carter – have outsold their closest competition 2:1 with their seventh studio LP.
The Alchemist’s Euphoria is the first to feature lead guitarist and songwriter Serge on lead vocals and now with six number one albums under their belt, Kasabian pull level with British music legends including Pink Floyd, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Blur, Paul Weller, The Chemical Brothers and more, Official Charts UK said.
Kasabian previously scored chart-toppers with Empire (2006), West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum (2009), Velociraptor (2011), 48:13 (2014) and For Crying Out Loud (2017).

Since forming 25 years ago, the rockers have traversed indie, Americana, space rock and more, amping each genre up to its most maximalist point.
Their new album looks to dance music for inspiration, the twisted hip hop of DJ Shadow and experimental ambience of Boards of Canada.
