Singer Diane Luckey, known as Q Lazzarus, has died at the age of 61.
The musician is best-known for performing the song Goodbye Horses in the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs, with the track later becoming a cult hit.
Luckey is confirmed to have died on July 19, with an obituary notice by Jackson Funeral Home being published at the end of last month.
It states that at the time of her death, she was finishing work on a feature documentary about her life and music with her friend, filmmaker Eva Aridjis, which will be released posthumously in 2023.
According to Rolling Stone, Luckey died from a short illness, with Aridjis telling the publication that they became close friends over the past three years while collaborating on the project together.
‘Q had one of those life forces that you simply can’t imagine being extinguished or ceasing to exist, because it was so vital and radiant and exuberant,’ Aridjis said.
‘Despite having had a very hard life, she was not jaded at all. On the contrary – she was full of enthusiasm, passion and humor. And she was also full of plans. At the time of her death, we were planning a “comeback concert” with some of her original bandmates.’
The publication has confirmed that the obituary misdated Luckey’s year of birth, as she was born in 1960, not 1962.
The obituary tells how she was born one of seven children in New Jersey, deciding from a young age that she wanted to pursue a career in music.

After beginning her career at 18 as a backup singer and jingles writer, she soon began performing and recording music under the name Q Lazzarus.
As well as her song Goodbye Horses being memorable from an iconic scene in The Silence of The Lambs, Luckey also appeared in the 1993 film Philadelphia, singing the song Heaven during a party scene starring Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington.
In the obituary, it states that Luckey was ‘a big-hearted, fun-loving and passionate woman who loved traveling, adventure, music, cooking and people’.
‘She lit up the room and turned heads everywhere she went and has always been a larger than life legend in the music world,’ it continued.
Luckey is survived by her husband Robert Lange, son James Luckey Lange, daughter Sayydina and sisters.
