We finally have a release date for the Sir Elton John and Britney Spears collaboration and there isn’t long to wait.

The music icons confirmed their duet earlier this month, announcing that they’ve worked on a new version of Sir Elton’s tune Tiny Dancer.

Titled Hold Me closer, the single will mark Britney’s return to music and her first release since 2016, following the end of her 13-year long conservatorship in November 2021.

In celebration of the collab, the Your Song hitmaker shared the official artwork, which features some seriously adorable throwback snaps.

One image shows the Toxic songstress as a small child, wearing a bright pink dance costume and feather in her hair.

Meanwhile, in his photo, Sir Elton was exactly the little boy you’d expect him to be, smiling for the camera as he played the piano.

The stars’ duet has been majorly hyped up given Britney’s lengthy absence from the music scene, but there’s just one week to wait until the track officially blesses our ears.

Hold Me Closer will drop on August 26, and fans hurried to express their excitement, branding them the ‘king and queen’ on Instagram.

‘I’m so ready for this’, one fan commented.

‘Coming for that number 1’, said another, predicting what is likely to be a chart success for the pair.

But, next Friday might not be the first time some eager fans hear the song, as a leaked version has been circulating online.

Britney fans in particular were raging after a snippet of the refashioning of Sir Elton’s 1971 smash hit surfaced, calling those responsible ‘disrespectful’ and claiming it is ‘ruining’ the moment.

Rumours first began swirling that the two musical icons had been cooking up a storm in the studio in July, with sources teasing that it would be the ‘song of the summer’.

US media outlets reported that the 40-year-old pop queen had met with the 75-year-old music legend and producer Andrew Watt at a Beverly Hills recording studio earlier this year.

Speaking with New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column, they said: ‘This was Elton’s idea, and Britney is a huge fan. They have recorded a remix of Tiny Dancer as a full duet — and it is incredible.’

‘Britney was in the studio in Beverly Hills last week with Elton for the super-secret recording session overseen by über-producer Andrew Watt,’ they added.

Pal Paris Hilton – who attended Britney’s lavish wedding earlier this year – later teased the single as well, sharing that it would be ‘iconic’.

Honestly, we are counting down the hours.
