Concerns have been raised about how Cornwall will cope with increased tourism after HOTD (Picture: HBO)

Game of Thrones fans everywhere have been counting down the days until its prequel House of the Dragon finally lands on our screens.

While legions of viewers can’t wait to see Matt Smith transform into Daemon Targaryen, it’s safe to say others have concerns about the launch of the George RR Martin adaptation.

With trailers teasing epic landscapes and jaw-dropping scenery, it’s no surprising audiences are already rushing to find out the fantasy drama’s filming locations.

As well as Warner Bros Leavesden Studios, Watford, film crews travelled to various locations across England, including tourist hotspot Cornwall.

In fact, filming for the first season of the spin-off kicked off with a two-week shoot in South West county.

St Michael’s Mount became a set for the upcoming show and is believed to be depicting Driftmark, the ancestral home of House Velaryon.

Meanwhile, Holywell Beach was also used to film some scenes, including ones used in the first promo images, and an extensive Velaryon army camp in the Stepstones was constructed at Kynance Cove.

But, according to The Guardian, tourism workers are worried about an influx of visitors to a region that is already struggling to cope with its growing holiday market.

Mike Bevens, MD of accommodation provider Sawday’s, said: ‘The constant desire for insatiable growth by some holiday operators is unsustainable.

‘The industry can’t keep gorging itself on the generosity of local infrastructure, communities and the environment without considering the longer-term effects.’

However, others are welcoming a further boost to the tourism industry, including Malcolm Bell, Visit Cornwall’s chief executive.

He told the paper: ‘We’re hoping that House of the Dragon might give us exposure to a younger audience worldwide.’
