Lorraine Kelly says her mum is in ‘safe hands’ as she undergoes treatment in hospital.

The chat show host, 62, is extremely close with mum Anne Kelly and often spends time with her despite the pair living hundreds of miles apart.

Anne, who celebrated her 80th birthday last year, still resides in Lorraine’s hometown of East Kilbride in Scotland, and was recently admitted to University Hospital Monklands for treatment.

Lorraine heaped praise on the NHS staff looking after Anne, taking to Twitter where she wrote: ‘Huge thanks to @JAAFairweather and all at @UHMonklands
who are taking such good care of my wee mum.

‘Can’t thank you all enough. ❤️❤️❤️’

Mum-of-one Lorraine did not go into details about her own mother’s potential illness or why she was spending time at the hospital.

However, the doctor she tagged in her message, Jack Fairweather, is both a Kidney specialist and general medical physician at the hospital.

On Friday, Lorraine issued a new update after a follower of hers wished Anne a speedy recovery and offered his love to the Kelly family.

‘Thank you so much,’ Lorraine replied, adding that Anne was ‘in safe hands.’

Lorraine’s praise for the NHS comes after she offered her own support to fellow presenter Katie Piper, who recently underwent emergency surgery on her eye.

Katie, 38, had suffered a perforated eye as part of the long-lasting effects of the acid attack organised by her ex-boyfriend in 2008.

As the Loose Women panelist updated followers on her emergency transplant and confirmed she was heading back to work and feeling positive, Lorraine wrote: ‘You are incredible.

‘I’m constantly in awe of your tenacity and endurance,’ she added.

Katie had thanked all of her friends and the public for their support amid her newest operation, saying she would ‘never take it for granted.’
