Drew McIntyre ended WWE SmackDown on top as he laid out Roman Reigns and sent a message before Clash At The Castle.
The Scottish Warrior is gunning for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title when WWE rolls into Cardiff, Wales on September 3 with its first UK stadium show in three decades, and he could take home the gold.
McIntyre was set for a face-off with Reigns at the end of Friday night’s show, but he also has his hands full with Karrion Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux following their shock return earlier this month.
Midway through the episode, the couple were seen backstage as Kross argued that Drew was chosen by the bosses, whereas it should’ve been him given these opportunities.
At the end of the night, Reigns – who had held several discussions with Honorary Uce Sami Zayn throughout the evening with The Usus not appearing on the show in Montreal, Canada – came out to address his challenger.
The reaction he got was phenomenal, and he called out McIntyre for recent claims he’s carried WWE for years, while Drew came out to answer the call and blast the champ for not being around.
Eventually, a brawl broke out and Zayn – more on him below – came out to help Roman and take a Claymore Kick, but even a Superman Punch from the Tribal Chief couldn’t keep Drew down.
He recovered and laid out the champ with a huge Claymore, standing tall with just two SmackDown shows to go before Clash At The Castle.
Happy Corbin costs Sami Zayn huge hometown win, Sheamus earns Gunther title match, Toxic Attraction arrive and more
Before we go any further, let’s give some major props to Sami Zayn after an absolutely star-making night for the hometown hero in front of the Montreal crowd.
The former Underdog from the Underground found himself battling Ricochet, Happy Corbin, Madcap Moss and Sheamus with a shot at Gunther’s Intercontinental Title on the line for Clash At The Castle.
This was an incredible match – one of WWE’s best of the year thus far, with a special nod going to Michael Cole’s El Generico reference – and showed that Zayn is more than ready for a babyface turn when the time comes, with the fans desperate for him to get the win here.

He almost did too, but Corbin pulled him out of the ring at the last second before getting hit with a Brogue Kick as Sheamus picked up the vital victory.
At the top of the show, Ronda Rousey was arrested after attacking security guards sent out to escort her out for appearing on SmackDown during her suspension.
This was a great way to continue building her as the Baddest Woman On The Planet again, with the fan reactions showing that it’s really paying off.

As revealed by Shawn Michaels before the show, Toxic Attraction’s Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin replaced Zoey Stark and Nikkita Lyons in their planned Women’s Tag Team Title Tournament match against Natalya and Sonya Deville.
Even though NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose wasn’t by their side this time, this was a great main roster debut for Gigi and Jacy as they picked up a win in a good bout against two recognisable names.

As an added bonus, Bayley, Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky were at ringside after buying tickets for the show, and it’s always fun hearing the Role Model heckle Cole.
Hit Row interrupted Maximum Male Models this week as they booted Ma.çé, Mån.sôör̃, Max and Maxine Dupri from the ring before delivering a concert for the crowd.
In a welcome change from the norm, The Viking Raiders oversaw a viking funeral for The New Day’s career, and having Sarah Logan involved was a nice twist to the on-location skit.
Finally, Liv Morgan beat Shotzi in a decent match before Shayna Baszler went on the attack, but she decided to wait until Clash At The Castle to break Liv’s already injured arm.
WWE SmackDown airs Friday Nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
