Get ready to return to Westeros – House Of The Dragon finally hits UK screens tonight.

The Game Of Thrones prequel, based on the Fire and Blood Series written by George RR Martin, is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated new series of 2022.

Set 300 years before the events of Game Of Thrones, House Of The Dragon follows the Targaryen family history, starting right at the formation of Westeros.

What’s more, it also has some recognisable faces joining the world of Westeros.

But who is joining the lineup?

Who is in the cast of House of Dragon?

Paddy Considine

Paddy Considine was the first official member of the cast announced, and will play King Viserys Targaryen.

He is chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal, and is warm, kind, and decent man.

Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy, but ‘good men do not necessarily make for great kings’, the synopsis warns.

Paddy has been in a series of highly acclaimed shows and roles, including Peaky Blinders, Hot Fuzz, and Pride.

Most recently, he appeared alongside Jude Law in Sky’s The Third Day.

Matt Smith

Matt Smith’s breakthrough role was as the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who, and still makes guest appearances for fan events as the favourite.

After that, he became the first incarnation of Prince Philip in seasons one and two of The Crown, before being replaced in a time jump by Tobias Menzies.

Other roles have included playing serial killer Charles Manson in Charlie Says, and roles in films including Patient Zero, Terminator Genisys, and His House.

He will play Prince Daemon Targaryen, the younger brother of Viserys – a ‘peerless warrior’ who ‘possesses the true blood of the dragon’.

Olivia Cooke

British actress Olivia Cooke appeared on TV mini-series The Secret of Crickley Hall for the BBC and Blackout when she was 19.

However, her breakthrough role was the smash-hit indie movie Me, Earl and The Dying Girl in 2015 – which set her on the path for Hollywood.

Since then, she was a series regular on Psycho prequel series Bates Motel, appeared in The Limehouse Golem, and led the cast as Becky Sharp in last year’s ITV period drama, Vanity Fair.

In 2018, she starred in Stephen Speilberg’s Ready Player One as well.

For House Of The Dragon, she will play Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King who, while not born a Targaryen, is closely connected to those who reign.

Emma D’Arcy

Emma D’Arcy has a handful of credits to her name – and they’re all pretty impressive.

Her first major TV role was in 2018, joining Toni Collette and Zawe Ashton in Wanderlust, a series about a woman reevaluating her marriage.

Next up she appeared as Sonia Richter in two episodes of Hanna, the Amazon Prime Video series adaptation of the movie.

She has also starred in the likes of Truth Seekers, Mothering Sunday, and Misbehaviour.

She’ll now play Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, a fierce dragon rider who, in the books, was destined to become the first Queen of Westeros.

However, her claim was challenged by Aegon II Targaryen, sparking the Dance Of Dragons civil war.

Rhys Ifans

Ifans has had various roles across TV, film, and stage as well as a music career (Picture: EPA)

You may know Rhys from the world of film or music as he once fronted Welsh rock group Super Furry Animals.

He landed his first TV role in 1991 in children’s comedy series Spatz, before moving into the world of film.

Ifans, 55, is probably best known for his roles in Notting Hill, Kevin & Perry Go Large, and Enduring Love.

He has also appeared as Xenophilius Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1, the supervillain Dr. Curt Connors in The Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Grigori Rasputin in The King’s Man.

The star, who has also had various roles on stage, will play Otto in House Of The Dragon, the current Hand of the King.

Eve Best

Eve, 51, revealed she had never seen Game Of Thrones before landing her part in House Of The Dragon, but she is certainly no stranger to TV screens.

The Tony Award-nominee is best known for her television roles as Dr. Eleanor O’Hara in the Showtime series Nurse Jackie, and Monica Chatwin in the BBC miniseries The Honourable Woman.

She also played Wallis Simpson in the Oscar-winning film The King’s Speech.

Eve will take on the role of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen for the show, known as the Queen Who Never Was and the daughter of Prince Aemon Targaryen and Lady Jocelyn Baratheon.

Steve Toussaint

Steve has had a variety of roles across his career in the likes of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Judge Dredd, and Shooting Dogs.

He will portray Rhaenys’ husband Corlys Velaryon, an experienced commander and seafarer who leads a powerful family.

The Velaryons rule over islands in the Narrow Sea and are valuable allies to have when it comes to trade and battle strategy.

Fabien Frankel

This is one of the first major roles Fabien has landed (Picture: REUTERS)

Fabien, 28, is a relative newcomer to acting.

He landed his first role in 2019 in the romantic comedy Last Christmas, before moving on to parts in NYPD Blue and The Serpent.

In House Of The Dragon, he will star as Ser Criston Cole, a knight from House Cole.

Graham McTavish

Well known in the fantasy world, Graham McTavish, 61, is most recognisable as Dwalin in The Hobbit film trilogy.

He has also starred as Vlad Dracula Țepeș in the Netflix animated franchise Castlevania, Loki in various Marvel animated projects, William Munny, the Saint of Killers in the AMC series Preacher, and as Dougal MacKenzie and William Buccleigh MacKenzie in the Starz series Outlander.

Making his return to the fantasy genre, McTavish will play Ser Harrold Westerling in House Of The Dragon.

His character is a knight from House Westerling and the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard under King Viserys I Targaryen.
